Job Description:
Research Technician
A research technician position is available in the Structural Biology Program of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in the heart of New York City. The successful candidate will work with a postdoctoral associate on studies of cancer-related proteins and protein complexes with the possibility to work independently after trained for independence. Work involves the cloning and overexpression of proteins in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, and protein characterization by in vitro biochemistry and ultimately by cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) or X-ray crystallography. Additional responsibilities include the maintenance of laboratory supplies, preparation of reagents/solutions, upkeep of equipment, and other duties as required by the supervisor.
Key Qualifications:
BA/BS/MS in the biological sciences with previous laboratory experience is required. The candidate must have a working knowledge of basic biochemistry and molecular biology methods. Hands-on experience with cloning (PCR, gel electrophoresis, transformation, sequencing, etc.), protein expression (by bacterial, insect, and mammalian cell culture), and protein purification (affinity chromatography and operating AKTA chromatography systems) are essential. Previous laboratory experience in a structural biology lab and familiarity with crystallography and/or cryo-EM are highly preferred.
