Reporting to the Associate Director and/or the Director of Security (as needed), the Manager provides leadership and direct management oversight of MoMA’s security operation and staff (155+ Supervisors, Security Officers and Control Room Operators).
The role regularly interacts with Security leadership, Supervisors and Officers in order to execute day-to-day functions and regularly interacts with MoMA’s frontline staff and other departments. Applies coaching, staff development, strategic planning, and emergency response experience to enhance overall departmental effectiveness, team morale, and professionalism within a multi-cultural museum environment.
Responsibilities:
- Drives the implementation of the MoMA Security department strategic plan, in conjunction with senior Security leadership, including all resources, processes, systems, and functions within the department to maintain and effectively safeguard the Museum, its’ staff, visitors and trustees, its’ physical properties, and the art.
- Oversees and manages the Museum’s physical security operation, including assigned posts (gallery, public space, retail). Responsible for management and oversight of all policies, procedures, investigations, and staffing.
- Participates in recruitment for select open positions and makes hiring recommendations or decisions for staff vacancies; supervises assigned staff on daily basis, providing relevant training, feedback, guidance, professional development, etc.; ensures compliance with and comprehension of Museum policies and relevant collective bargaining agreement; manages the constructive discipline process, as warranted; conducts annual performance reviews with direct staff; etc.
- Maintains open lines of communication with all direct reports and other department heads to ensure good day–to–day situational awareness and effectiveness.
- Manages and/ or assists in managing all aspects of the fire life safety program as well as the safety and health programs and processes at the Museum, including safety-related training, programs and prevention, compliance assurance, and incident investigation.
- Monitors and maintains compliance with requirements of federal and state OSHA requirements and applicable consensus standards.
- Participates in work groups/task force teams, as assigned, to address concerns or implement new processes.
- Works collaboratively with a diverse and multicultural community.
- Coordinates and collaborates with Building Operations, Exhibitions, Membership, Visitor Services, Special Events, and all other MoMA departments to ensure efficient, effective and safe Museum operations.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
