Shukette is part of the Bowery Group restaurants ( Cookshop, Rosies, Vics and Shuka) Helmed by JBF nominated Chef Ayesha Nurdjaja (@ayesah_rare) features foods and flavors inspired by her travels through the Mediterranean and Middle East. Every night feels like a warm and breezy Summer evening at a cafe on the Mediterranean coast. Esoteric wines sourced from around the region and captivating fortified and aromatized cocktails round out our beverage program which perfectly complements the food.

The exciting new Chelsea restaurant Shukette, which has been heralded by the NY Times for its “extroverted, generous spirit” and an approach to Middle Eastern cooking long “overdue in New York,” is looking for ambitious, hard-working, and passionate Sous Chef to join the team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of one year experience working at the sous chef level in a professional kitchen. The candidate will manage food and labor costs, expedite busy service, plan and oversee production and oversee the BOH team. She/he/they can handle multiple tasks in a composed, friendly and hospitable manner and has the speed and skill to manage the fast pace of our restaurant.

The successful candidate must have flexible, full-time availability and be able to demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- Working knowledge of kitchen management, inventory management, staff scheduling and food/labor cost maintenance
- Managing the line and assuring food quality, presentation and consistency
- Minimum one year experience expediting in a restaurant with 200 or more covers per service
- Creating and maintaining prep lists, placing orders, and working with vendors
- Kitchen leadership, including training and motivating a diverse team, and efficient management of daily production
- Maintaining DOH food safety standards so as to keep the kitchen in A-grade condition at all times, and familiarity with COVID-19 precautions. Candidate must hold a DOH Food Handler’s Certificate
- Overseeing BOH facilities maintenance and upkeep
