Strand Book Store, also known as The Strand, is an independent family-owned bookstore
known for having over 18 miles of new, used, and rare books with three locations operating in New York City. Established in 1927, The Strand is also known for its bookish gifts &
amp; merchandise (including the iconic Strand Tote), literary events, the Books by the Foot program, and its subscription services.
The Communications Director will be responsible for building and driving all aspects of communications and marketing for Strand Book
Store. They will work closely with the CEO, COO, and other departments to develop comprehensive marketing strategies to both promote and drive sales
for the 94-year-old NYC institution. This individual will oversee the website, social media, email marketing, partnerships, subscription programs and work
closely with creative to align in-store marketing with digital marketing.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a 360 communications strategy by working with necessary internal and external parties to increase awareness of The Strand, both locally and internationally, while also driving digital sales via Strand Book Store
- Works directly with senior management to develop marketing programs, design marketing strategies and implement marketing campaigns.
- Develops and manages annual marketing budgets for the organization, regularly monitors expenditures; prepares summary assessments and reports.
- Conducts market research and analysis, and establishes data management and tracking systems to improve the company’s marketing efforts.
- Ensure Strand Book Store (The Strand’s primary e-commerce platform) is creatively and functionally aligned with the overall strategy by managing the teams responsible for back-end and front-end web development
- Lead front end marketing efforts and develop new strategies for growth of ecommerce and brand awareness
- Coordinate with stakeholders, and external partners, to promote success of activities and enhance the company’s presence online and in the local marketplace
- Strategizing and executing social media, email, SMS, and various other digital marketing platforms
- Serves as public information contact, when appropriate
- Oversee promotions and partnerships associated with Strand’s subscription services (The Book HookUp and Pick of the Month)
- Project manage creative development for digital and in-store creative as outlined in the overall communications strategy.
- Develop monthly reports on performance analytics such as sales, social media engagement, and email KPIs
- Work with location scouts and production companies for on-location film and TV shoots
