The Opportunity
The Accounting Manager will be a hands-on leader responsible for strengthening the company's day-to-day accounting operations, with a significant focus on Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
The current accounting organization includes approximately 3 AR professionals, 2 AP professionals, a temporary Senior Accountant, and additional outsourced support.
This individual will bring greater structure and accountability to the team while improving the accuracy and timeliness of transactional accounting. The Accounting Manager will also work closely with the Controller and other business leaders to improve processes across Accounting and Procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, GL, reconciliations, and month-end close activities
- Directly manage, train, and develop the AP and AR teams
- Establish stronger review procedures and quality-control standards across transactional accounting
- Review AP activity to identify duplicate invoices, missing supporting documentation, vendor posting/coding errors, and past-due invoices
- Improve vendor communication and ensure outstanding invoices and payment issues are addressed appropriately
- Partner closely with Procurement to improve invoice approval, vendor management, and payment processes
- Review AR aging, cash application, invoicing, credit memos, adjustments, and collections activity
- Support the Controller with month-end close and preparation of divisional and consolidated financial statements
- Review journal entries and account reconciliations and ensure issues are identified and resolved
- Strengthen accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across the accounting team
- Partner cross-functionally with Procurement, Operations, Sales, and other departments
- Support audits, financial reporting, system initiatives, and other accounting-related special projects
Must-Haves
- CPG experience required, ideally within food, consumer products, manufacturing, or distribution
- Strong Accounting Operations background with hands-on experience overseeing AP, AR, GL, reconciliations, and month-end close
- Proven experience managing and developing accounting staff, particularly AP and AR teams
- Strong understanding of AP processes and controls, including invoice approvals, duplicate invoices, vendor setup/posting, supporting documentation, and payment processing
- Demonstrated ability to identify accounting-process weaknesses and implement stronger controls, review procedures, and accountability
- Experience working within a multi-entity organization and supporting consolidations
- Strong GAAP accounting foundation
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a hands-on environment undergoing process improvement
- Bachelor's degree required
- Spanish bilingual capabilities are a plus
