Location: Chicago, Illinois

Compensation: $85,000 - $105,000 + bonus

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and growing organization in Chicago, is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its accounting leadership team. This role will support the Controller in overseeing the day-to-day accounting function, financial reporting, month-end close, and process improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will bring a stable career progression with increasing levels of accounting responsibility. Candidates coming from a public accounting background who have successfully transitioned into industry or professionals with progressive corporate accounting experience will be highly considered.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Oversee general ledger accounting and ensure compliance with GAAP
• Assist with preparation and review of financial statements and management reporting packages
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
• Coordinate internal and external audit activities
• Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Mentor and develop accounting staff
• Partner with operations and business leaders to support financial decision-making
• Drive process improvement initiatives and accounting automation efforts

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Public accounting experience and/or corporate accounting leadership experience preferred
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
• Experience leading month-end close and managing staff
• Advanced Excel skills and ERP system experience
• CPA strongly preferred
• Strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills

• Experience within manufacturing, distribution, or other operationally focused environments
• Prior experience reviewing work performed by staff and senior accountants
• History of tenure and professional growth within organizations
