Accounting Manager – Real Estate

We are partnering with a well-established real estate investment, development, and management firm seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join its New York office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and wants broad exposure across the real estate business. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, and the continued development of the accounting team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, and cash management
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and variance analyses
  • Oversee accounting for multiple entities, including intercompany transactions and consolidated reporting
  • Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen controls, and improve or automate accounting processes
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members while promoting accuracy, accountability, and professional growth
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and other third-party service providers
  • Partner cross-functionally with development, asset management, investment, and operations teams
  • Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow analysis, and other financial planning initiatives
  • Support special projects and provide accounting and financial analysis to senior management as needed
  • Help enhance accounting systems, reporting capabilities, and processes as the organization continues to grow


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Experience with multi-entity, intercompany, and consolidated accounting
  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or developing accounting professionals
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong Excel skills and experience working with ERP or accounting systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with both accounting and non-accounting professionals


Highly Preferred

  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Previous real estate accounting experience
  • Background in public accounting or audit
  • Experience with Yardi, NetSuite, Ramp, or similar accounting and financial systems
  • Experience improving month-end close procedures, implementing new processes, or automating reconciliations and reporting
