Full job description
Agricultural Property / Operations Manager – Central Valley, CA
Nelson Connects is partnering with an innovative organization focused on sustainable agriculture and responsible land management to identify a Agricultural Property / Operations Manager to oversee a portfolio of agricultural properties in California’s Central Valley.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys the intersection of property operations, project management, agriculture, asset management, and relationship building. This is not a traditional hands-on farming or crop production role. Instead, this person will serve as the operational link between the property owners, farm managers, tenants, vendors, contractors, and other partners — making sure projects move forward, properties are well maintained, budgets are managed, and issues are resolved.
The ideal candidate may come from agriculture, property management, construction, real estate, facilities, land management, or another project-driven environment. What matters most is the ability to manage complex properties and projects, build strong relationships, stay organized, and operate independently in a hands-on environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Oversee the day-to-day property operations of multiple agricultural properties throughout the Central Valley.
- Serve as a key point of contact and relationship manager for farm managers, tenants, vendors, contractors, consultants, and other outside partners.
- Coordinate and manage capital improvement, infrastructure, maintenance, and property projects from planning through completion.
- Develop project scopes, obtain and evaluate vendor bids, coordinate contractors, monitor timelines, and ensure projects stay on track and within budget.
- Oversee property maintenance, infrastructure needs, irrigation-related projects, facilities, land improvements, and other operational priorities.
- Manage operating and project budgets, track expenses, review costs, and help identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
- Coordinate across multiple properties and competing priorities, ensuring issues are followed through to resolution.
- Maintain strong communication with onsite farm and agricultural managers while supporting them with property, infrastructure, vendor, and operational needs.
- Review operational and financial information related to the properties and help ensure assets are being managed effectively for long-term performance.
- Maintain organized records, leases, project information, budgets, and property documentation.
- Visit properties regularly to assess conditions, meet with partners, monitor projects, and stay connected to what is happening in the field.
- Help ensure properties are operating in accordance with applicable environmental, agricultural, safety, and operational requirements.
- Build trust and credibility with a wide range of stakeholders and serve as a calm, solutions-oriented resource when unexpected issues arise.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is organized, resourceful, personable, and comfortable taking ownership. You don't necessarily need to be the agricultural expert — the strength of this role is being able to effectively manage the people, projects, properties, and relationships surrounding the agricultural operation.
Ideal candidates will bring:
- Experience managing properties, projects, infrastructure, facilities, construction, land, or agricultural operations.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, consultants, tenants, or other external partners.
- Strong budgeting and cost-management experience, including obtaining bids, reviewing proposals, tracking expenses, and managing project costs.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
- The confidence to work independently while keeping leadership and key stakeholders informed.
- Comfort working in a field-based environment and regularly visiting multiple properties.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
Agricultural experience is valuable, but deep farming expertise is not necessarily required. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in an agricultural environment and partnering closely with farming experts, while bringing strong skills in property operations, project management, vendor coordination, budgeting, and relationship management.
