Full job description

AI Product Engineer, Applied AI Platform

Location: Hybrid, San Francisco, CA (3 days/week in-office; occasional customer site visits, roughly quarterly)

Salary: $150K–$300K + meaningful equity

Sponsorship: H-1B transfers and Green Card applications supported; new H-1B sponsorship not available

We're hiring an AI Product Engineer at a well-funded Series A startup building bespoke AI-powered software for some of the world's most important institutions, governments, insurers, healthcare systems, and financial services firms. The team is built from elite engineering and research backgrounds across top AI labs and enterprise technology companies.

This is a role for builders who want product ownership, not a narrow ticket queue. You'll build and deploy AI-powered software solutions end-to-end, from customer spec to production, working directly with customers to translate complex, ambiguous workflows into usable, high-impact products.

The problem you'd help solve: Large, regulated institutions run on manual, decades-old processes that have resisted digitization, and most AI products aren't built with the security, compliance, and sovereignty requirements these environments demand from day one. This team builds a security-first, model-agnostic AI platform purpose-built for exactly that gap, then ships bespoke, vertical-specific applications on top of it for government, insurance, healthcare, and finance customers.

You'll work alongside an AI/ML team handling model selection, training, and evals, building the product layer on top of their outputs, with a roughly 70-80% coding / 20% customer-facing split (shifting more customer-heavy at senior and staff levels). Full-stack, backend-leaning: TypeScript and Python are the core languages, React on the front end.

You'll likely be a fit if you have:

  • Demonstrated ability to build 0-to-1, shipped production software end-to-end at a startup or high-growth company, not exclusively big tech
  • Strong product thinking, direct experience working with customers or stakeholders to define specs and turn ambiguity into working software
  • Proficiency in TypeScript or Python (both preferred), full-stack capability with a backend lean
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, hybrid environment without a fully defined playbook

Nice to have:

  • RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud platform experience (AWS/GCP/Azure)
  • Experience in a customer-facing IC role at a high-growth startup

What you won't find here: This role won't suit you if you want a fully scoped backlog and a purely execution-only mandate, or if you're looking for a people-management track. Every engineer here, including at staff level, stays hands-on and codes daily.
