Position Summary

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the successful execution of electrical construction projects by bridging the gap between project engineering and full project management responsibilities. This role is responsible for coordinating project activities, managing documentation, supporting financial tracking, and assisting with procurement and scheduling.

The APM plays a key role in ensuring projects remain organized, cost-aligned, and on schedule while developing the skills necessary to progress into a Project Manager role.


Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Execution

  • Support the Project Manager in coordinating all phases of electrical construction from preconstruction through closeout
  • Act as a liaison between field leadership, vendors, subcontractors, and project management
  • Assist in identifying and resolving scope conflicts, design discrepancies, and field issues


Submittals, RFIs & Documentation

  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and change orders to ensure timely resolution
  • Maintain logs of outstanding items and proactively follow up to prevent schedule impacts
  • Ensure document control processes are followed and all stakeholders are working off current information


Budget & Cost Control Support

  • Assist with tracking job costs, reviewing project reports, and updating cost projections
  • Support change order pricing, including coordination with field leadership and estimating
  • Review vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and alignment with project scope
  • Help maintain continuity between estimate, budget, and execution


Procurement & Vendor Coordination

  • Assist with issuing purchase orders and tracking material and equipment deliveries
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to ensure alignment with project schedule and requirements
  • Monitor procurement logs and report status to project leadership


Scheduling & Field Coordination

  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and lookaheads
  • Coordinate with Superintendent and Foremen on manpower planning and production tracking
  • Monitor field progress and help identify and mitigate delays


Quality & Safety Support

  • Support QA/QC processes by verifying compliance with plans, specifications, and codes
  • Assist with inspections, documentation, and coordination of testing activities
  • Reinforce safety expectations in coordination with field leadership and safety teams


Closeout & Project Turnover

  • Assist in assembling closeout documentation including as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranties
  • Coordinate punch list completion and final inspections
  • Ensure all project documentation is complete and organized for turnover


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • 2–5 years of experience in electrical construction, project engineering, or coordination roles
  • Progression from Project Engineer or similar role strongly preferred


Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of construction processes, electrical systems, and project lifecycle
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in:
  • Project management tools (Procore, ProjectSight, etc.)
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bluebeam


Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly visits job sites, requiring walking, climbing, and navigating active construction areas.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment and work on a computer for extended periods.


Work Environment:

  • Office-based with frequent travel to project sites and client meetings.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work based on project schedules.
