ASSOCIATE AT A LEADING RENOWNED PHILANTHROPIC NON-PROFIT | HYBRID NYC OR WASHINGTON DC

Base Salary is $75K to $87,500K (based upon candidate and experience)

Leading, renowned, philanthropic, non-profit organization is looking for an experienced individual/professional to join its Team as an Associate based in New York City or Washington DC. In this role, you will support grant-making and strategy development focused on improving the affordability of employer-sponsored health insurance and empowering employers in their roles as healthcare purchasers. This position will report to an Associate Director within the organization and support the development and management of multiple grants, partnerships, and other emerging opportunities aligned with the organization's strategies. You will learn about project management, healthcare policy, research, and philanthropic investment by supporting the grant lifecycle from ideation and approval to evaluation and dissemination.


Hybrid role with Three (3) Days per Week in the Office (Mon, Tue, & Thu) and Two (2) Days per Week Remote/Virtual. The office is closed between Christmas and New Year’s.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, intellectually curious, operationally focused, and detail oriented. You should be able to set and communicate priorities while nimbly reacting to fast-moving opportunities. More specifically, the ideal candidate will bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; preferably in Social Sciences, including Economics, Policy, Sociology, Public Health and/or Information Sciences.
  • Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration, Public Health, Public Policy or Related Field is a plus.
  • Three (3) or More years of Experience in Healthcare Management Consulting, Strategy, Business Operations or Other Professional Services, Healthcare Benefits Administration, Program or Project Management, or Related experience.
  • Experience in Commercial Healthcare Markets, Healthcare Policy, and Employer-sponsored Insurance is a plus.
  • Prior experience as a Philanthropic Funder or Grantee is a plus.
  • Understanding of and Interest in Healthcare Spending and Affordability.
  • Some travel, including occasional travel to New York for DC-based employees, is required.
  • Experience related to employer-sponsored insurance, commercial healthcare markets, employee benefits, or healthcare purchasing.
  • Project coordination and management skills.
  • Excellent time management - proven skill and comfort in prioritizing, multi-tasking, overseeing, and efficiently delivering high-quality work products.
  • Collaborative and constructive approach with colleagues and external partners.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to synthesize information.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and have the organizational skills to prioritize and manage numerous projects at once as they evolve and change.
  • Attention to detail, willingness to be hands-on, flexibility, and an ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical skills, adept at research and writing, and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in working independently and collaboratively as part of a team, as well as experience engaging external partners and/or working cross-functionally.
  • Ability to understand and interrogate budgets and financial reporting.
  • Excellent judgment; adept at exercising discretion and tact in complex, confidential situations.
  • Facility with managing up and communicating proactively with a team lead.
  • Desire to learn and grow, as well as being receptive to receiving instruction, direction, and feedback.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Grant Management

  • Develop management and reporting processes to track status of grant deliverables, performance measures, budgets, and modification requests.
  • Maintain up-to-date project management resources that facilitate effective cross-team collaboration, such as requirement trackers, SharePoint directories, and other collaboration tools.
  • Regularly update their manager on status of grants, including on potential grant issues and project efficiencies.
  • Manage and contribute to the review and quality control of grant materials and outputs, such as evidence and guidance intended for employers and other commercial healthcare market purchasers, closely coordinating and collaborating with internal, external, and communications staff.
  • Provide operational and logistical support by coordinating meetings, reviewing reports, taking notes, and synthesizing takeaways for senior staff.

Research and Synthesis

  • Support management of research contracts to inform the design, implementation, evaluation, and strategic direction of the organization, with a particular focus on employer-sponsored insurance and commercial healthcare markets.
  • Conduct environmental scans of new developments, trends and perspectives related to portfolio strategy and individual investments.
  • Carry out due diligence research on potential grantees and partners.
  • Attend conferences and events to gather key insights from thought leaders on relevant topics.
