Full job description
We are seeking an experienced AV & Technical Support Lead to manage the technical readiness and execution of in-person data collection sessions across the San Francisco Bay Area. This hands-on field role combines AV setup, hardware and device support, live recording monitoring, technical troubleshooting, participant assistance, equipment logistics, and post-session data quality checks.
Contract Type: Hourly contract (1099)
Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA
Schedule: Flexible schedule across multiple Bay Area locations
What You Will Be Doing
- Own technical readiness for scheduled sessions, from pre-session planning and equipment checks through setup, live support, data validation, and closeout.
- Coordinate the secure movement, inventory, charging, configuration, and availability of recording devices, cameras, networking equipment, and backup hardware.
- Lead room setup and determine effective camera, tripod, and equipment placement based on the activity and environment.
- Guide instructors and participants through device fitting, onboarding, and calibration in a clear and professional manner.
- Monitor recording quality, connectivity, synchronization, storage, and battery status during live sessions and make quick decisions when issues arise.
- Complete post-session data offloading, first-pass quality checks, upload tracking, and documentation to confirm each session is complete.
- Partner with the Site Lead and operations team to manage schedules, escalate risks, and maintain consistent technical standards across locations.
Who We Are Looking For
- Experienced technical operations, A/V, field support, live production, IT support, or data collection professionals with 2 to 4+ years of relevant experience.
- People who have taken ownership of end-to-end technical setup and support for live sessions, events, labs, studios, research studies, or customer environments.
- Strong troubleshooters who can diagnose hardware, software, networking, synchronization, storage, or power issues under time-sensitive conditions.
- Professionals comfortable working with cameras, wearable devices, mobile devices, Wi-Fi networks, routers, cloud storage, and large audio/video file transfers.
- Highly organized individuals with experience managing equipment inventories, readiness checklists, charging schedules, session documentation, and data quality checks.
- Clear, calm communicators who can support non-technical participants and explain technical procedures in simple terms.
- Candidates with a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable vehicle suitable for transporting equipment cases between Bay Area locations.
- Individuals able to lift and transport equipment cases weighing up to 40 pounds and perform repeated setup and teardown activities.
Preferred Experience
- AR/VR, wearable technology, eye-tracking, motion capture, sensor-based systems, or multi-camera recording environments.
- Live event production, studio operations, research operations, field engineering, or high-touch technical support.
- High-volume data offloading, file validation, quality assurance, and secure cloud uploads.
