Pay Rate: 30-34 per hour
Onsite in Thousand Oaks, CA
Employment Type: Temporary / Contract (Estimated 6-Month Assignment)
Security/Citizenship Requirement: Must be a U.S. Citizen (due to facility access and government contract restrictions)
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly adaptable Buyer to join our procurement team for a 6-month contract assignment. This role is responsible for purchasing specialized, complex materials, equipment, software, and services in strict accordance with corporate purchasing regulations and government procurement standards. Operating in a dynamic, high-volume environment, the Buyer will interface with suppliers and internal teams, negotiate terms, manage vendor contracts, and leverage ERP systems to support cutting-edge R&D and manufacturing operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Procurement Execution: Negotiate, award, and administer procurement actions for both commercial and Government-funded requirements.
- Commodity Management: Manage purchases across diverse categories, including capital equipment, software license agreements, blanket purchase orders, professional/repair services, maintenance agreements, construction contracts, hazardous chemicals, electronics, and specialized hardware.
- Proposal Support: Assist cross-functional teams with proposal preparation and procurement data support as required.
- ERP Data Management: Utilize Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems daily to track orders, manage vendor records, and generate procurement reports.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with vendors and internal customers using patience, diplomacy, and tact to ensure on-time delivery and adherence to Teledyne and government specifications.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Negotiation & Purchasing Knowledge: Solid understanding of purchasing concepts with demonstrated comfort negotiating pricing, delivery schedules, and contractual terms.
- Operations Under Pressure: Ability to manage high-volume workloads and maintain accuracy under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills; strong diplomatic approach to vendor and internal stakeholder interactions.
- Ethics & Compliance: High commitment to ethical business conduct, continuous compliance, and safe work practices.
- Technical & Software Literacy: Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to adapt quickly to operational software.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Professional development coursework in procurement management is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience as a Buyer required.
- Preferred Systems Experience: Prior experience using Deltek Costpoint (ERP) and/or Solumina (Quality/MES System) is highly desirable.
