Position Overview:
GM2 Associates, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Consultant Liaison Engineer (CLE) team involved in the management and delivery of bridge improvement projects throughout the state of CT on behalf of the CT Department of Transportation (CTDOT). Acting as an extension of CTDOT engineering staff under their Consultant Bridge Design – CLE Program, GM2 provides administrative and technical support to CTDOT, oversees and coordinates with municipalities and consultant engineering firms, and manages project activities, schedules andbudgets. The position requires a blend of strengths, including technical, communication, organizational, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills. You will answer directly and work closely with an experienced GM2 program manager.
On the technical side, you will be responsible for working with and coordinating the work of various GM2 technical professionals in the preparation of project studies involving structural engineering, traffic engineering, highway design, water resources engineering, environmental permitting, geotechnical engineering and utility coordination. On the administrative side, you will be responsible for overseeing project design progress and final delivery, managing project schedules and costs, preparing project documents and correspondence, and working closely with CTDOT’s project manager and project engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with GM2’s program and project managers and discipline leaders and assist in oversight of project development, including scope, schedule and cost
- Act as liaison project engineer for several projects simultaneously
- Prepare reports involving the assessment of alternative structural concepts and preliminary engineering of project solutions and cost estimates
- Perform technical analyses and recommend resolution of technical and non-technical issues
- Perform primary coordination activities with internal team members and CTDOT personnel
- Review progress design submissions prepared by other consultants and vendors
- Oversee the development of plans, specifications and estimates in accordance with the latest CTDOT standards and practices
- Prepare written documents and correspondence
- Present projects to CTDOT, municipal officials, environmental permitting agencies, the general public, and other project stakeholders
- Perform project site visits throughout CT
Qualifications:
- Educational - Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an accredited program
- Experience – 5+ years in bridge design or bridge construction projects
- Licenses & Certifications - Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification minimum, OSHA -10
- Technical Skills & Knowledge - Experience in roadway and/or bridge projects for CTDOT or similar agency and experience with FHWA/CTDOT project delivery processes. Experience with the Federal Local Bridge Program or similar CTDOT program is preferred.
Proficiency in standard office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam) is required. Working knowledge of software required by CTDOT (MS Project, AASHTOWare Project Estimation, Bentley OpenRoads Design, Bentley OpenBridge Modeler, etc.) is preferred.
- Project & Client Management - Strong written and verbal communication skills and organization and time management skills required. This position requires the ability to multi-task with strong organizational skills and initiative.
- Leadership – Ability to collaboratively work with others at all levels in a multi-discipline team environment through leadership with exceptional communication skills.
