Cost Accountant / Staff Accountant

Direct Hire or Temp-to-Hire

100% Onsite

Location: Pennsauken, NJ area

A growing food and beverage manufacturing/distribution company is seeking a Cost Accountant / Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This is a hands-on role supporting month-end close, inventory accounting, cost analysis, reconciliations, reporting, and broader accounting functions.

The company recently completed an acquisition, which has created clearer long-term hiring needs and additional opportunity for growth. The team had been using interim support, but now has approval to bring on a full-time accounting professional. This person will work closely with the Controller, Inventory Accountant, and leadership team while taking on expanded responsibilities as the organization continues to evolve.

Schedule is approximately 8:00 AM–4:30 PM with some flexibility. The environment is stable, smaller-team, and not a heavy overtime/crazy-hours setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
  • Analyze inventory, production costs, labor, materials, overhead, margins, and cost variances.
  • Prepare cost reports, inventory reports, internal financial reports, and management reporting.
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice processing, budgeting, forecasting, and audit support.
  • Partner with operations, procurement, inventory, and finance to review costs, identify trends, and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Support process improvements and strengthen accounting controls as the company continues through post-acquisition changes.
  • Learn and support ERP processes, including work within Sage 100 and a planned transition to NetSuite.

Ideal Background

  • 3–5 years of accounting experience with a strong general accounting foundation.
  • Inventory accounting exposure required.
  • Manufacturing, production, food/beverage, or cost accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, AP/AR, and financial reporting.
  • Comfortable working in a smaller accounting team where responsibilities may be broad and hands-on.
  • Able to operate independently with limited hand-holding.
  • Strong Excel skills; ERP experience required.
  • Sage 100 experience is a plus.
  • NetSuite experience is a strong plus due to an upcoming system transition.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

Selling Points

  • Recent acquisition creates opportunity for growth and increased exposure.
  • Opportunity to gain NetSuite implementation/conversion experience.
  • Stable, smaller accounting team with direct exposure to leadership.
  • Relaxed office environment and reasonable hours.
  • Strong manufacturing/inventory accounting exposure.
  • Role has room to expand as the business evolves.
  • Good opportunity for someone who wants a broader accounting seat instead of a narrow, repetitive role.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision
  • 2 weeks PTO
  • 1 week sick time

Interview Process

  • Initial Teams interview with the Controller
  • Onsite interview with the Controller, Inventory Accountant, and General Manager
