Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and leadership-driven Customs Brokerage Supervisor to oversee our daily operations for customs brokerage department in Jamaica, NY. In this role, you will lead a team of entry writers, manage high-volume customs clearances, and ensure strict compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Partner Government Agencies (PGAs). The ideal candidate combines technical trade expertise with a passion for mentoring team members and solving complex logistics challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Train, evaluate, and schedule entry writers while maintaining team productivity, accuracy, and high ethical standards.
- Operational Oversight: Oversee the daily processing, auditing, filing, and billing of customs entries via ACE/ABI systems to ensure timely cargo clearance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Verify strict adherence to CBP regulations, Importer Security Filing (ISF), and U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) classifications.
- PGA Clearance: Manage specialized clearances for Partner Government Agencies including FDA, USDA, APHIS, TTB, FSIS, TSCA, Fish & Wildlife, and EPA.
- Issue Resolution: Proactively manage and resolve customs holds, government agency inquiries, exam delays, and compliance disputes to minimize supply chain disruptions.
- Logistics Coordination: Issue Delivery Orders, coordinate cargo inspections, and collaborate with internal departments and trucking partners.
- Client & Account Support: Act as the primary point of contact for key accounts, offering expert guidance on tariffs, regulations, and duty rates.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough self-audits to ensure all customs formalities are met before closing files, staying current on all industry updates.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience in customs brokerage
- Leadership: Proven track record of managing, coaching, or leading an operational brokerage team preferred.
- License: A valid Customs Broker License (CHB) is strongly preferred but not required.
- Software Skills: High proficiency in trade software (e.g., Editrade, CargoWise) and Microsoft Excel.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of HTSUS classification, entry types, and diverse PGA regulations.
- Soft Skills: Highly organized, team-oriented, able to multitask effectively, and possesses strong professional integrity.
- Availability: Must be able to work on-site at our Jamaica, NY office (near JFK).
