Job Title: Downstream Engineer

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, California — Onsite

Employment Type: Contract (W-2)

Duration: 18-month assignment

Salary/Rate: $80–$85 per hour on W-2

Job Summary

The Downstream Engineer will provide technical engineering support for reliable, compliant, and efficient downstream manufacturing operations. This role will work closely with Manufacturing, Process Development, Engineering, Validation, Quality, Maintenance, and Project Management teams to troubleshoot equipment and manufacturing issues, support engineering projects, and contribute to commissioning, qualification, validation, startup, investigations, and continuous improvement activities.


Responsibilities

  • Review manufacturing and engineering priorities and provide technical support to downstream manufacturing operations.
  • Troubleshoot process equipment and manufacturing issues in collaboration with Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Participate in project, manufacturing, and cross-functional coordination meetings.
  • Review engineering drawings, equipment specifications, P&IDs, vendor documentation, and related technical materials.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors regarding equipment installation, commissioning, and project execution.
  • Support commissioning, qualification, validation, and startup activities.
  • Participate in investigations, change controls, risk assessments, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical recommendations to Engineering and Operations leadership regarding equipment performance, reliability, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify technical issues and support timely resolution.
  • Maintain appropriate technical documentation and support compliance with applicable procedures, quality requirements, and site standards.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Relevant engineering experience supporting manufacturing, process equipment, or pharmaceutical/biotechnology operations.
  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing or process equipment in collaboration with Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, equipment specifications, P&IDs, and vendor documentation.
  • Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, qualification, validation, or startup activities.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, contractors, and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.


Work Requirements

  • This is an onsite position in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
  • The anticipated start date is the beginning of October 2026.
  • The assignment is expected to continue for 18 months, subject to business needs and applicable contract terms.
  • Ability to work onsite and participate in meetings and activities required to support manufacturing and engineering operations.
  • Ability to collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Validation, Quality, Maintenance, Process Development, and Project Management teams.
  • Any required work schedule, site access, safety, training, and compliance requirements will be communicated in accordance with applicable law and site policies.
