Chicagoland General Contractor is seeking a Construction Estimator/Senior Estimator that will assist with the company’s estimating department, help secure work with new and current clients, and meet/exceed strategic financial objectives. This position will require a high level of detail and analysis and will report directly to the Chief Estimator/CFO.
Job Responsibilities:
• Prepare detailed estimates at different levels of completion (conceptual, schematic/budgetary, CD, etc.), including proposal estimate, analysis, counts, and qualifications for all items/trades associated with project bid.
• Calculate complete takeoff of scope of work and solicit pricing from qualified vendors and subcontractors.
• Actively perform pre-construction services with Clients, Owners, Owner Representatives, Architects, and Engineers. Attend pre-bid meetings, walk-thru, etc. to determine scope of work required. Analyze site conditions and contract documents (RFP’s).
• Lead/manage multiple bid proposals at same time.
• Participate in pre-job meeting with project management personnel.
• Prepare and assemble bid and proposal for different contract types (Lump Sum, Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), Cost Plus, etc.).
• Make recommendations to internal personal and client for contemplated expenditures.
• Maintain subcontractor/supplier bid lists.
• Exhibit sound, accurate, and professional judgment.
• Strong attention to detail, organization skills and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities, and the passion to deliver high-quality work, often within tight deadlines.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
• BS or MS degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent.
• 5+ years’ estimating experience (preferably for a general contractor).
• Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel) and Planswift/On-screen (or similar).
• Capable of working independently or with Project Team.
• Driver’s license required and ability to travel to sites as needed.
