Job Title: Fleet Parts Buyer


Reports To: Fleet Parts Supervisor


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Fleet Parts Buyer is responsible for supporting the MEC fleet teams by sourcing and procuring parts for vehicle repairs and fleet inventory. This role works closely with fleet personnel, mechanics, and vendors to purchase parts, monitor costs, and ensure the timely availability of components needed to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient fleet operations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Sourcing & Procurement:
  • Source, research, and purchase automotive and heavy-duty vehicle parts.
  • Obtain competitive pricing, issue purchase orders, and process purchasing documentation.
  • Coordinate with fleet technicians to identify and fulfill parts requirements for vehicle and equipment repairs.
  • Track and communicate any backorders or parts delays to fleet team.
  • Update and communicate parts order status.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


  • Inventory Controls:
  • Maintain inventory control procedures to ensure accurate stock levels, cost efficiency, and availability of critical fleet parts.
  • Monitor inventory, establish reorder points, and perform routine cycle counts to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Track parts expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support fleet budget management.
  • Assist with quarterly inventory counts.


DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High school diploma or equivalent (some college preferred).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of DOT Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  • Highly organized, able to multitask, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience in fleet maintenance, inventory control, and vehicle maintenance processes.
