Founding Sales and Go-to-Market
Full job description
About Voltify
Voltify builds freight rail battery locomotives that fast charge while moving, powered by a self-sustaining microgrid network. We cut rail’s largest expense, energy, by more than 20% and eliminate its dependency on fossil fuels. $50M in contingent orders, $30M+ raised from top tier funds and strategics, and a founding team that has built public billion-dollar companies in renewable energy and infrastructure.
The Role
We are hiring our first salesperson. You own revenue from zero.
Your market is the North American shortline railroad industry, a finite universe of operators you can personally cover in a few years. You will find them, get in front of them, and sign them. Cold calls, yard visits, industry events, and whatever creative approach gets you through a door at a company that has never heard of us.
Year one you "storm the castle" and build the systems as you go. Year three you are managing a small team running the playbook you wrote. You report to the CEO.
What You’ll Do
- Prospect the full universe of North American shortlines
- Close locomotive, charging, and energy contracts
- Identify grant applications that fund customer purchases
- Structure creative commercial models with the CEO and Finance
- Build the sales operating system from scratch: CRM, pipeline, forecasting
- Sign hundreds of contracts personally in <2 years
- Travel at least 50% of the time
Must Haves
- You have sold your entire career. Not a stage you passed through on the way to BD, partnerships, or ops. You love it.
- You prospect and you close. You generate pipeline from cold. It is not handed to you.
- Zero to one. You have sold something unproven, before the brand did any of the work.
- Senior expertise, junior hunger. Credible to a railroad operator, still dialing the phone yourself.
- Aggressive, with high EQ. You know when to push and when to go quiet for three months.
- Creative. When the front door is locked, you find another one.
- Analytical. Our deal sizes and structures do not forgive sloppiness.
- On the road. LA based or open to relocating, comfortable traveling half the month.
Strongly Preferred
Energy or heavy equipment sales (solar, C&I, storage, microgrids, capital projects, industrial equipment). Capital-heavy, multi-stakeholder deals. Grant writing. Project finance. AI and automation to cut admin time.
Not A Fit If
- Your pipeline has come from marketing, an SDR team, or an inherited account list
- You have only owned one stage of someone else’s sales motion
- You would rather manage than build our sales motion 0 to 1 for the next two years
