Head Court Maintenance Technician – Indoor Clay Courts

About Us

We are a premier high-volume indoor tennis facility in New York City featuring indoor Har-Tru clay courts. We pride ourselves on offering tour-quality playing surfaces for our members year-round. We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Head Court Maintenance Technician to oversee our daily court conditioning and keep our facilities in top shape. This role leads a team overnight and coordinates with a spot court maintenance person during the day.

Key Responsibilities

• Nightly Clay Surface Maintenance: Lead a crew of four to six technicians to perform surface maintenance routines, including hand brushing, scarifying, line sweeping, and lathing.
• Moisture & Climate Management: Oversee automated and manual watering schedules, monitoring indoor ambient humidity, airflow, and temperature to ensure consistent clay binding and playability.
• Line Maintenance: Precision top-dressing, line tape repair/replacement, and line cleaning.
• Routine Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain court equipment (power brushes, tow rollers, court rollers, line sweepers, and watering systems).
• Inventory & Supplies: Track clay top-dressing stock, calcium chloride/salt applications, line tapes, and court accessories; coordinate replenishment with management.
• Facility Oversight: Coordinate quarterly deep scarification and maintenance of the courts.
• Administrative & Quality Oversight: Review and approve nightly task reports, maintenance logs, and quality checklists completed by the maintenance team; verify that required work has been completed to established standards and communicate any issues or follow-up needs to management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Court Maintenance Experience: Minimum 2+ years of hands-on clay court (Har-Tru or Red Clay) maintenance experience required.
• Leadership and Management Experience: Minimum of 2+ years experience of leading maintenance teams or similar.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of clay surface dynamics, moisture control, and line installation.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50+ lbs (clay bags), operate heavy equipment, and work on your feet for extended shifts.
• Work Ethic: Punctual, proactive, and capable of working from 11PM to 7AM each day.
• Location: NYC resident or willing to commute reliably to Manhattan.
