FT Helpline Counselor

Pay: $34-$36 hourly

Location: Claremont (In Person)


Working Hours: Full Time, weekends required, with two (2) weekdays off (to be assigned). AM schedule (7:00am-3:30pm), Evenings (3pm-11:30pm). This schedule is a general guideline and will vary based on need.

Position Overview

Parents Anonymous® Inc. is looking for an enthusiastic, caring, and compassionate Helpline Counselor with a Masters Degree in Social work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or Counseling and a valid and active registration with the BBS. You will be trained to deliver Parents Anonymous® Evidence-Based Programs to support diverse Parents, Children & Youth. Experience with Parents is a must as well as crisis situations.


You will be providing trauma-informed emotional support to diverse Parents, Children and Youth through calls, texts, and live chats on the California or National Parent & Youth Helpline® . Trained counselors who answer the Helpline utilize Evidence-Based Parents Anonymous® therapeutic processes and engage in empathy, share self-calming and mindfulness techniques, help Parents, Children and Youth of any age build their support system, and connect them to weekly free Parents Anonymous® Groups and other services. We believe that Asking for Help is a Sign of Strength® . Creating a judgment free and safe space with no blaming and shaming is essential to providing Evidence-Based support to address trauma, stress, anxiety, and any crisis or personal issue. Parents Anonymous® Inc. provides Clinical Supervision for ACSWs, AMFTs and APCCs upon the completion of successful 90 days of employment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize Parents Anonymous® Evidence-Based therapeutic processes to respond and assist Parents, Children and Youth through phone/texts/chats on the CA and National Parent and Youth Helpline® and document interactions in the assigned database.
  • Provide emotional support and locate appropriate resources in response to their issue or concern.
  • Address crises like suicidal ideation, child and elder abuse and neglect with the support of your assigned supervisor and VP of Clinical Services.
  • Utilize a caller database to collect and document calls and outcomes.
  • Document scope of issues and results of calls/text/live chats in database.
  • Attend all required training and weekly clinical supervision.
  • Implement all Parents Anonymous ® policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all services provided.
  • Engage in outreach initiatives to agencies/organizations to increase engagement of Parents, Caregivers, Children and Youth in Parents Anonymous programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Must possess a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology or Counseling from an accredited graduate school.
  • Must be fully registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences with at least 1,000 hours towards your license.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred and other languages spoken is a plus.
  • Must provide documentation of being fully vaccinated including at least one booster shot against the COVID-19 virus.
  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years working in social services with Parents and/or Youth.
  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of individual or group counseling.
  • Must have well-developed computer skills.

  • Willingness to be flexible to fulfill the requirements of the position
  • Must be culturally responsive, responsible, and able to seek assistance from supervisor when crises arise.
  • Must embrace the 4 Therapeutic Processes of Parent Anonymous ® including Mutual Support, Parent Leadership, Shared Leadership®, and Personal Growth and Change.
  • Attend 80 hours of Comprehensive Training In Person
  • Must have a smartphone
  • Must provide documentation of being fully vaccinated including at least one booster shot against the COVID-19 virus
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, car insurance, and reliable transportation [to commute to the assigned office (and travel locally for outreach / as needed)]
  • [Basic / Well-developed] computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with databases or project management software preferred
  • Strong [analytical,] communication, [community] relationship-building, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, follow written procedures, and meet deadlines consistently
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
