Private Staff Group is in search of an experienced HR Generalist to support the HR Manager of a well-established insurance organization. This is a hands-on, broadly scoped role for someone ready to take real ownership within a small, close-knit team, with genuine room to grow long-term.

Two areas require full independence:

This person must have hands-on payroll processing experience and be able to run a semi-monthly cycle independently and accurately when the HR Manager is unavailable.

They must also own all areas of recruiting end to end across both locations, including job postings, sourcing strategy, screening, phone screens, interview coordination, and managing candidates through to offer, working independently across Indeed, Ideal Traits, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Supporting the HR Manager on employee relations matters and documentation
• Benefits enrollment, open enrollment, and leave administration (PFL, Disability, ACA)
• New hire onboarding, including system entry in ADP and Workday
• HR compliance, recordkeeping, handbook updates, and mandatory training tracking
• Quarterly staff scheduling, including rotating Saturday coverage
• Headcount, turnover, and retention reporting

What we're looking for:

• 5 to 7 years of hands-on HR experience spanning multiple functions
• Proven independent payroll processing experience
• Demonstrated full-cycle recruiting ownership
• Comfortable with HRIS and payroll platforms; ADP or Workday a plus
• Familiarity with employment law and HR compliance practices
• Strong organizational skills, discretion, and follow-through
• Able to work in person across both Commack and Bayside
