Interim Controller (Contract)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Interim Controller to lead and oversee all accounting and financial operations for a growing construction organization in Costa Mesa.

A successful candidate will possess deep experience with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and prevailing wage compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and Cash Management.
• Manage the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

• Manage all aspects of construction accounting, including:
• Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
• Job costing and project profitability analysis
• Percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
• Cost-to-complete forecasting
• Change order tracking
• Retention accounting
• Review project budgets, committed costs, and forecasted project performance.
• Partner closely with Operations and Project Managers to ensure project financial accuracy and accountability.
• Analyze project variances and provide recommendations to improve margins and financial performance.

• Oversee prevailing wage accounting and related reporting requirements.

• Leverage NetSuite ERP to improve reporting, efficiency, and financial visibility.

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager within the construction industry.
• Strong experience with NetSuite ERP.
• Experience managing month-end close and financial statement preparation.
• Working knowledge of prevailing wage compliance and certified payroll reporting.
