The Manager, Quality Engineering is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality systems that ensure products meet customer and company requirements. This role provides hands-on quality engineering support to manufacturing operations while leading outgoing quality inspection and final product release activities. The position serves as the primary quality representative to the manufacturing floor and the engineering production support and design teams, driving continuous improvement, root cause analysis, process controls, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Management & Leadership
- Lead the site's manufacturing engineering quality function and ensure compliance with company quality standards and customer requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems, procedures, and work instructions.
- Establish quality goals and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage and mentor quality inspectors, technicians, and quality engineering personnel.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Customer Quality teams to resolve quality issues and improve overall product performance.
Manufacturing Quality Engineering
- Provide quality engineering support for manufacturing processes, products, and equipment.
- Develop and maintain inspection plans, control plans, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and related quality documentation.
- Utilize statistical methods and data analysis tools to identify trends, reduce variation, and improve process capability.
- Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify effectiveness.
- Participate in new product introduction (NPI), process validation, qualification activities, and engineering change implementation.
Outgoing Quality Management
- Own the final inspection and outgoing quality process for all products prior to shipment.
- Ensure all outgoing products meet quality requirements, and acceptance criteria.
- Develop and maintain outgoing inspection procedures, sampling plans, and release criteria.
- Lead Production MRB reporting activities and disposition decisions for nonconforming material to drive internal defect and scrap reductions.
- Monitor manufacturing and quality performance metrics such as first-pass yield.
- Coordinate final product audits and product release approvals.
- Drive improvements to reduce customer escapes and field quality issues.
- Support internal manufacturing audits and ISO 9001 relate activities
Continuous Improvement
- Lead quality improvement projects focused on reducing defects, scrap, rework, and cost of poor quality.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Analyze internal and external quality data to identify systemic issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate cross-functional teams to address recurring quality concerns and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Act as the primary quality contact for manufacturing-related customer concerns and lead corrective action activities
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of experience of manufacturing quality experience, including quality engineering and quality management responsibilities.
- Experience managing inspectors, technicians, or quality personnel in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience with outgoing quality inspection and final product release processes.
- Experience conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Manager (CMQ/OE), or equivalent certification.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with ISO 9001 or other industry-specific quality systems.
