The Role:
We are seeking a Manufacturing & Product Development Engineer specializing in Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to support the development, optimization, and production of battery modules, packs, and product-level systems.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering design and manufacturing operations, ensuring that energy storage products are safe, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective to produce.
Job Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Process Development (ESS Focus)
- • Evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes related to battery cells, modules, packs, BMS electronics, wiring harnesses, and energy storage subassemblies.
- • Lead process validation, test procedure development, and engineering change assessments for high-voltage system builds.
- • Troubleshoot systemic production issues such as weld quality, insulation faults, thermal uniformity, and electrical performance deviations.
- • Develop and implement tooling, fixtures, and automated test equipment (ATE) specific to ESS assembly and validation.
- • Implement Poka-Yoke solutions for HV connectors, torque-critical joints, and other manufacturing processes both manual assembly and automated assembly.
Energy Storage Product Development Support
- • Apply DFM/DFA principles to battery enclosures, busbars, thermal management, and mechanical structures.
- • Lead prototype builds, pilot production, and design verification activities (DVT/PVT).
- • Author work instructions, HV assembly procedures, QC checks in Work instructions and safety-critical documentation for ESS production in our MES system
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- • Create and maintain PFMEA, DFMEA, Hazard Analysis, and Control Plans for ESS hazards.
- • Ensure compliance with UL9540, UL1973, UL9540A, UN38.3, NFPA855 and related standards.
- • Support audits, customer reviews, and certification activities.
- • Develop electrical, functional, and safety test protocols.
Production Support & Collaboration
- • Support Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain with real-time troubleshooting.
- • Assist with BOM development for battery modules/packs and HV components.
- • Train production staff in HV safety and battery handling requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 3–7 years of experience in a manufacturing engineer role. (in energy storage, battery, EV, or power systems preferred)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and tool design
- Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques
- Familiarity with UL, UN38.3, IEC, NFPA, ISO9001/13485.
- Commitment to health and safety standards
- Strong understanding of HV safety, HV Battery Safety, and LOTO procedures.
