M&A Integration / IMO Project Management Engagement

Situation

Our client is a rapidly growing technology organization expanding through the acquisition of innovative companies and capabilities. As the organization continues to scale, integrating new acquisitions into the broader business requires coordination across multiple functional areas, geographies, systems, and teams.

The client has turned to SolomonEdwards for hands-on program management expertise to support acquisition integration efforts from pre-close planning through Day 1 and post-close execution.

The emphasis of this engagement will be on creating structure in a fast-paced environment, coordinating multiple concurrent integrations, identifying gaps and dependencies, and ensuring critical integration activities continue moving forward even when established processes, tools, or detailed project plans are not yet in place.

Definition of Success

Success will be defined by strong hands-on project management, effective stakeholder communication, and the ability to create structure and drive execution in an evolving M&A environment.

The successful Project Manager will translate deal objectives into actionable integration plans, establish clear ownership and milestones, proactively identify risks and dependencies, and maintain visibility across multiple concurrent transactions and functional workstreams.

Success will also depend upon the ability to operate with a high degree of independence, quickly assess what needs to happen, influence stakeholders, and drive decisions and execution without relying on fully developed processes or established project-management infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Join this high-growth technology organization to provide project management support across multiple acquisition integrations. The Project Manager will work closely with Corporate Development, the Integration Management Office, functional workstream leads, and cross-functional stakeholders to support integration planning and execution.

Project management consulting activities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Supporting integrations from pre-close planning and Day 1 readiness through post-close execution
  • Managing multiple acquisitions and integration workstreams simultaneously while shifting priorities as deal requirements evolve
  • Establishing project structure, plans, trackers, governance mechanisms, and operating rhythms when formal processes or tools do not yet exist
  • Partnering with Corporate Development and functional workstream owners to translate deal objectives and requirements into executable plans
  • Identifying execution gaps, dependencies, risks, issues, and decisions required to maintain forward progress
  • Coordinating across Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Equity, HR, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Operations, and other functional teams
  • Providing hands-on project management support for complex close and post-close activities, including coordination between Payroll and Equity related to employee payouts, transaction consideration, and other deal-related requirements
  • Establishing clear ownership, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and escalation paths across parallel workstreams
  • Maintaining accurate and current project plans and trackers that reflect the reality of work in progress
  • Proactively managing schedules, identifying potential slippage, assessing impacts, and developing solutions
  • Driving timely resolution of risks, issues, actions, and cross-functional dependencies
  • Preparing and delivering status reporting, project updates, key milestones, and critical metrics to stakeholders and leadership
  • Facilitating meetings, working sessions, and planning sessions and ensuring clear follow-up and accountability
  • Leveraging AI and productivity tools to accelerate planning, analysis, documentation, meeting follow-up, status reporting, and overall integration execution
  • Capturing lessons learned and identifying opportunities to improve the integration process across transactions

Targeted Expertise

Required Functional Background

  • Significant experience managing M&A integrations, Integration Management Offices (IMO), or complex cross-functional transformation programs
  • Demonstrated experience supporting multiple acquisitions or integrations concurrently
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments with limited structure and rapidly changing priorities
  • Strong examples of personally creating the structure, plans, trackers, and operating mechanisms needed to drive execution
  • Ability to quickly assess a new environment, identify what needs to happen, and establish an actionable path forward
  • Experience coordinating multiple functional workstreams and senior stakeholders
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills
  • Finance-related integration experience, particularly across Accounting, Payroll, Equity, Treasury, or related functions, is highly desirable
  • Experience working with project management and productivity tools such as Smartsheet, Asana, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar platforms
  • Working familiarity with AI tools and the ability to incorporate them appropriately into day-to-day project management and execution
  • Self-directed and comfortable taking ownership without requiring highly prescriptive direction

Attributes of a Successful M&A Integration Project Manager

  • Comfort with ambiguity – able to make progress and recommend a course of action when information, processes, or plans are incomplete
  • Structure building – able to create project plans, governance, trackers, and operating mechanisms where they do not already exist
  • Execution focus – hands-on and persistent in driving actions, decisions, dependencies, and deliverables to completion
  • Context switching – able to effectively manage multiple transactions and workstreams while priorities change
  • Problem solving – quickly assesses gaps and dependencies and develops practical solutions
  • Stakeholder engagement – builds relationships across functional teams and effectively works with senior stakeholders
  • Influencing skills – able to gain alignment and drive progress without direct authority
  • Flexibility – comfortable adjusting plans and approaches as deal requirements evolve
  • Organization – highly organized and able to maintain visibility across multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Communication – able to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely to both working teams and leadership
  • Collaboration – works effectively across Finance, HR, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Operations, Corporate Development, and other functions
  • Sense of urgency – energetic, proactive, and comfortable working against aggressive transaction and integration timelines
