Full job description
A respected national litigation law firm is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join its Chicago office. This position supports attorneys handling a broad range of complex civil litigation matters, including insurance defense, toxic tort, premises liability, product liability, and transportation litigation.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment while working collaboratively with attorneys, clients, experts, and litigation support professionals.
Responsibilities
Manage litigation files from inception through trial, maintaining organized case files and document control.
Track and calendar court deadlines, discovery schedules, and case milestones.
Coordinate with local counsel, clients, experts, and vendors throughout the litigation process.
Prepare, organize, and maintain pleadings, correspondence, exhibits, charts, and other case documents.
Review, summarize, and analyze deposition transcripts, medical records, and other case materials.
Coordinate expert witness retention, prepare expert files, and manage report and deposition deadlines.
Assist attorneys with deposition, hearing, mediation, and trial preparation.
Organize trial notebooks, witness files, exhibits, and demonstrative evidence.
Draft routine pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and other litigation documents.
Manage document production, review, and organization for discovery.
Request, review, and organize medical, employment, business, and other relevant records.
Maintain accurate client files and litigation databases.
Prepare and file documents electronically in state and federal courts.
Provide additional litigation support as needed throughout all phases of case management.
Qualifications
3+ years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably supporting insurance defense or complex civil litigation matters.
Experience with one or more of the following practice areas:
Insurance Defense
Toxic Tort
Premises Liability
Product Liability
Transportation Litigation
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage multiple active cases.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with electronic filing in state and federal courts is preferred.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $72,000 - $88,000 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
