Job description:

The Procurement Buyer for Packaging is responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted supply of packaging materials while controlling cost, maintaining food safety compliance, and supporting production requirements.

Skills Required:

• Procurement and negotiation expertise
• Packaging material knowledge (film, corrugated, labels, trays)
• Supply chain and inventory management
• Food safety and regulatory knowledge and collaboration with QA teams
• Excel and ERP proficiency
• Strong analytical and cross-functional communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

1. Packaging Material Procurement-

Vacuum bags, films, boxes, labels, trays, and other plant needs

2. Supplier Management-

Identify, qualify, and develop suppliers. Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and service agreements. Monitor supplier performance for quality, on-time delivery, and responsiveness. Build backup suppliers to reduce supply risk.

3. Cost Control and Savings-

Analyze market trends and resin, paperboard, and packaging material costs (using public information pieces to audit price increases and decreases). Lead and manage bidding and RFP processes. Work on annual cost reduction and value engineering initiatives.

4. Inventory and Production Support

Maintain appropriate packaging inventory levels. Work closely with production planning to prevent stockouts or excess inventory. Manage lead times and coordinate deliveries to support manufacturing schedules.

5. Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance

Ensure packaging materials comply with:

• FDA requirements
• USDA regulations
• Food-grade standards
• Customer specifications
• HACCP and SQF requirements (where applicable)

Support supplier audits and documentation requirements with our QA department

6. Packaging Development & Continuous Improvement

Collaborate with QA, Operations, Marketing, and R&D on:

• New product launches
• Packaging redesigns
• Sustainability initiatives
• Material substitutions

Evaluate alternative materials from suppliers that improve performance or reduce costs.

Working Conditions:

Full-time exempt position. Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Salary Range: $66,000.00- $75,000.00 annually
