NEXEN Properties is a vertically integrated multifamily owner-operator headquartered in Los Angeles. The firm owns, manages, and asset-manages its portfolio in-house, currently comprising approximately 1,000 units across five properties. NEXEN is a growing company with approximately 500 additional units in the pipeline and further growth anticipated as the platform expands.

Position Summary

NEXEN Properties is seeking a Property Accountant to perform day-to-day accounting for an assigned portfolio of multifamily properties. Reporting to the Controller, the Property Accountant is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of property-level financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close support. The position works closely with on-site property management teams and supports the firm's reporting to ownership, lenders, and investors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform full-cycle accounts payable, including coding, entry, and processing of vendor invoices in Yardi
  • Manage accounts receivable and tenant ledgers, including rent posting, delinquency tracking, and resident credits
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and post cash activity for assigned properties
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaid schedules, and general ledger account reconciliations
  • Support the month-end close and prepare property-level financial reporting packages
  • Maintain security deposit accounting and prepare move-out reconciliations
  • Support utility and RUBS billing processes
  • Administer vendor setup, W-9 collection, and year-end 1099 preparation
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and respond to audit and tax requests
  • Research and resolve discrepancies in coordination with property management, and review financial results with property managers as needed
Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience, including property management experience in multifamily
  • Working knowledge of Yardi
  • Solid working knowledge of accounting fundamentals, including accruals, reconciliations, and the month-end close
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrated accuracy, organization, and follow-through, with the ability to identify and escalate issues in a timely manner

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • QuickBooks experience
  • Experience supporting multi-entity or multi-property portfolios
  • Working familiarity with California landlord-tenant requirements as they relate to billing and deposit accounting
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary of $70,000 – $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience
