Job Title: Sr Front-End Architect
Type: Contract | W2 or C2C
Location: Jersey City, NJ — 5 Days Onsite (RTTO)
Experience: 14+ years
Lead the design and development of modern, high-performance web experiences using React and the broader front-end ecosystem — 60% front-end (React + TypeScript), 40% backend (Java Spring). Owns front-end architecture end-to-end while also building microservices/API contracts to support UI capabilities. Built on JPMC's EXDS design system.
Must-Haves
- 14+ years of software engineering experience with significant depth in front-end web development; experience leading projects and mentoring engineers
- Expert-level React proficiency (hooks, component composition, context, rendering behavior, concurrency patterns)
- Strong TypeScript skills (types-as-design, generics, strictness strategies) and modern JavaScript fundamentals
- Strong Java and Java Spring skills for microservices/API contracts (GraphQL/REST) with front-end friendly design patterns (pagination, filtering, error models)
- Deep experience with modern front-end tooling: Vite/Webpack, Babel/SWC, npm/pnpm/yarn, monorepos (optional), build/release pipelines
- Strong CSS skills: responsive design, CSS architecture (CSS Modules, CSS-in-JS, or utility frameworks), theming, styling at scale
- Advanced testing: Jest/Vitest, React Testing Library, Playwright/Cypress for E2E; test strategy ownership
- Accessibility expertise: WCAG/ARIA, keyboard navigation, screen-reader considerations, automated + manual a11y testing
- Performance engineering: profiling, bundle splitting, SSR/CSR trade-offs, caching strategies, Core Web Vitals optimization
- API integration expertise: GraphQL and REST (schema-driven development, error handling, pagination, caching, client state strategies)
- Security awareness: XSS/CSRF prevention, dependency hygiene, secure auth/session patterns
- Front-end observability: client-side logging/metrics, error reporting, debugging production issues
- MUST: Proficiency using AI-assisted engineering tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate implementation, refactoring, test creation, and debugging
Nice-to-Haves
- SSR/meta frameworks: Next.js / Remix and SEO considerations
- Design system experience (Storybook, tokens)
- Micro-frontend patterns and module federation
- Visualization/rich UI: D3, Canvas/WebGL, advanced tables/grids, animation libraries
- Authentication integrations (OIDC/OAuth2) and enterprise SSO constraints
- Track record modernizing legacy front ends and improving developer experience (DX)
