Are you an experienced accounting professional looking to make an impact with a mission-driven organization dedicated to providing affordable housing throughout the community? We are seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join a collaborative accounting team and manage a portfolio of 10-12 properties. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accountant who enjoys financial reporting, month-end close, variance analysis, and partnering with cross-functional teams. This position offers a longer term contract opportunity and the chance to contribute to an organization focused on creating affordable housing solutions.
What You'll Do:
- Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of approximately 10-12 properties
- Lead monthly financial close processes and ensure reporting deadlines are consistently met
- Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Analyze general ledger activity and investigate account discrepancies and variances
- Perform bank reconciliations and resolve outstanding reconciling items
- Prepare budget-to-actual variance analyses and provide explanations to leadership and property management teams
- Review Accounts Payable batches to ensure proper coding and financial accuracy prior to processing
- Prepare monthly financial statements and investor/lender reporting packages
- Coordinate with Asset Management and Property Management teams on reporting requirements and deadlines
- Manage intercompany accounting transactions and reconciliations
- Support year-end audit preparation and external audit requests
- Assist with ad hoc financial reporting, analysis, and special projects
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years of accounting experience; 5+ years strongly preferred
- Strong experience with month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting management reporting
- Ability to manage multiple entities, properties, portfolios, or business units simultaneously
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial data analysis
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, investigate, and explain financial variances
- Experience working independently while managing competing deadlines
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Property accounting, real estate accounting, affordable housing, nonprofit housing, or multifamily experience is highly preferred
- Experience with intercompany accounting and investor/lender reporting is a plus
- Experience with Yardi and/or MIP Fund Accounting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of work-in-progress (WIP) accounting within real estate development environments is a plus
