Technical Quality Manager

SUMMARY
This position will manage the processes to meet customer quality and technical requirements to ensure the Company’s quality standards are achieved and maintained, incorporating quality, quantity, and cost considerations. Provide technical consultation and coordination of R&D projects.
Additionally, lead environmental initiatives for the Company to ensure compliance with all OSHA, DEP, and EPA regulations and requirements, resulting in a safe and productive work environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Quality Assurance
- Manage the standards for production.
- Test and report on incoming product complaints.
- Test and report on quality parameters of incoming raw materials and direct off-line production.
- Review all raw materials and production stages for adherence to requirements.
- Review, distribute, and maintain the daily sample-folder standards for scheduled production.
- Identify root cause and validate/invalidate customer quality complaints.
- Review production quality complaints and make recommendations for their resolution.
- Provide back-up support for production/supplemental Q.C. whenever needed.
Environmental
- Keep company environmental requirements up to standard regarding daily operation and reports, licenses, and/or permits regarding regular renewal.
- Keep current with changing regulations.
- Maintain records, files, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), ensuring accuracy and legal compliance.
- Conduct formal and informal audits to ensure compliance.
- Perform EHS functions as needed.
Customer Contact
- Provide customers with relevant information and respond to distributor/customer requests.
- Provide hands-on and refresher training for any new hires.
- Ensure onboarding and initial three-month training for Q.C. personnel is organized, and monitor for compliance.
- Provide demonstrations and explanations of Q.C. processes to visitors.
- Assist with facility tours for customers and employees.
Research & Development
- Serve as a member of the R&D Team and active participant in R&D meetings.
- Coordinate and manage trial activities and materials.
- Provide technical expertise to trials and meetings.
- Ensure new vendors comply with company standards.
- Source new resources.
Purchasing
- Assist with specifications, quality, and new resources for critical raw materials.
- Manage ongoing Q.C. and testing for incoming raw materials.
Other
- General housekeeping, safety, maintenance, and other projects/assignments as assigned by the Director during machine downtime or production shutdown.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field — or equivalent combination of education and manufacturing Q.C. experience.
- Five (5)+ years of quality control or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment, including two (2)+ years supervising or leading a Q.C. function.
- Hands-on experience with raw material and finished goods testing, sample standards, and specification management.
- Demonstrated root cause analysis and corrective action experience (5-Why, fishbone, CAPA, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and NJDEP regulatory requirements, including recordkeeping, permits, and SDS management.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, test methods, and customer quality requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); comfortable working within an ERP or quality management system.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to interact directly with customers, vendors, and production personnel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in wallcovering, coatings, printing, textiles, or a related continuous-process manufacturing environment.
- Certification such as ASQ CQE, CQA, or CQM; Six Sigma Green Belt or higher.
- Experience supporting R&D trials and new product commercialization.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or comparable quality management standards.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
