Direct-to-Shape Printing & Decoration

About the Role
Polytype America is seeking a Technical Sales Representative to drive sales of direct-to-shape printing and decoration technologies to the rigid packaging industry across the United States and Canada. This role combines technical consultation with solution selling — working closely with brand owners, converters, and packaging manufacturers to identify decoration needs and position our equipment and technology as the right fit. The ideal candidate has a strong technical aptitude, packaging or capital equipment sales experience, and is comfortable managing a large geographic territory.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, prospect, and develop new business opportunities within the rigid packaging market across the U.S. and Canada
- Manage the full sales cycle for direct-to-shape printing and decoration equipment, from lead generation through contract close
- Provide technical consultation to prospects and customers on decoration processes, equipment capabilities, and application fit
- Conduct product demonstrations and presentations, both in-person and virtually, for prospective customers
- Collaborate with applications engineers and technical support teams to develop tailored solutions for customer needs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts, brand owners, converters, and industry partners
- Develop and execute a territory sales plan to meet or exceed revenue and unit targets
- Track opportunities, forecasts, and account activity
- Represent the company at trade shows, industry conferences, and customer site visits
- Stay current on industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging decoration technologies
- Work cross-functionally with marketing, engineering, and customer service to support the sales process and ensure customer satisfaction
- Travel extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada to meet with customers and prospects (approximately 50-60%)
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of technical or capital equipment sales experience, ideally in packaging, printing, or industrial manufacturing
- Strong mechanical/technical aptitude with the ability to understand and explain complex printing and decoration processes
- Proven ability to manage a large multi-country territory and sell to a diverse customer base
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency with CRM systems and standard sales reporting tools
- Valid driver's license and passport; ability to travel internationally between the U.S. and Canada and abroad.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote/field-based capacity
Preferred:
- Experience in rigid packaging, direct-to-shape printing, digital printing, pad printing, screen printing, or decoration technologies
- Existing network of contacts among brand owners, converters, or packaging manufacturers in the rigid packaging space
- Experience selling capital equipment with long sales cycles
