Full job description
Los Angeles, CA | On the ground, working with local teams | $120K-$165K base + equity
We are leading a confidential search for the senior Los Angeles operations leader of a small, growing, mission-driven pet services company.
This is a hands-on, multi-site operating role for someone who loves leading people, improving how work gets done, and building the systems that allow a service business to scale without losing the care and responsiveness that made it successful.
This is not an enterprise-wide, large company VP role, and it is not a job for someone who wants to manage from a conference room. You will be close to the teams, facilities, service partners, vehicles, equipment, and day-to-day operation.
What you'll own
You will lead and coordinate operations across the Los Angeles market, including:
- Leading, coaching, and developing frontline leaders and hourly teams across multiple locations and shifts
- Coordinating staffing, labor, capacity, workflow, and service execution across sites
- Creating greater consistency across locations while understanding where local needs differ
- Overseeing facilities, equipment, maintenance, safety, inventory, and operating readiness
- Coordinating fleet, routing, transportation, and field logistics
- Improving service quality, reliability, productivity, and cost
- Building and improving SOPs, training, shift handoffs, KPIs, and management routines
- Using data to identify bottlenecks and improve labor, capacity, quality, and service
- Owning operating budgets and understanding the financial drivers behind day-to-day decisions
- Developing stronger frontline managers and creating clear accountability
- Solving problems that span people, sites, logistics, facilities, and service
- Building an operating model that can continue to scale without adding unnecessary bureaucracy
You need to be able to zoom out and see how the entire Los Angeles operation is performing, then zoom all the way in when something is breaking and work alongside the team to understand why.
What will make you successful here
We care much more about what you have actually operated and how you lead than about having a particular industry on your resume.
You might be a strong District or Regional Manager ready for broader ownership, an Operations Director or Senior Director ready for the next step, or a hands-on VP in a smaller organization who loves to be close to the work.
The strongest candidates will have led frontline or hourly teams in a physical, service-intensive environment and coordinated performance across multiple sites, locations, territories, or operating units.
Your background could come from pet services, specialty retail, healthcare services, field services, route-based businesses, logistics, hospitality, laundry, manufacturing, automotive services, or another operationally complex environment.
What matters is that you have actually built and improved operations. You have developed managers, strengthened training, created better processes and accountability, used data to solve problems, and improved things like service, productivity, quality, cost, or employee performance in measurable ways.
Just as important is how you operate.
You are humble and low ego. You ask questions before assuming you have the answer. You earn credibility with frontline employees. You can hold high standards without creating unnecessary friction. You are comfortable coaching someone one minute, analyzing a metric the next, and walking a facility to understand what is really happening after that.
You do not need a large corporate infrastructure around you to get things done. You see problems, understand root causes, make decisions, and follow through.
And in a service business centered around pets and their families, you understand that reliability, responsiveness, quality, and care all show up directly in the experience you deliver.
Specific pet-industry experience and a college degree are not required.
Location
This position requires being on the ground in Los Angeles with the local teams. You must already live in the Los Angeles area or be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate. This is not a remote role.
Compensation and equity
The base salary range is $120,000-$165,000, plus an equity opportunity for experienced and entrepreneurial leaders. Experience working within private equity-funded organizations is a plus.
If you have built strong frontline teams, improved complicated physical operations, and like solving problems close to the work, we would like to hear from you.
