A well-established, mission-driven organization is seeking a Vice President of Finance & Accounting to provide strategic and operational leadership across its accounting and finance functions.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this individual will oversee financial reporting, accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, audits and compliance. The Vice President will serve as a trusted partner to executive leadership and the Board, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information while providing insights that support informed decision-making and the organization’s long-term financial health.

The ideal candidate will be a technically strong accounting leader who can operate strategically while remaining comfortable working closely with the details.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Lead all accounting operations, including the general ledger, monthly and annual close, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements and management reporting.
  • Review complex accounting matters and establish appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit and serve as a primary contact for external auditors.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial information used in executive, Board and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure financial records and supporting documentation are complete, accurate and audit-ready.

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, periodic forecasting and long-range financial planning.
  • Monitor performance against budget and forecast, identifying key trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare financial models and analyses to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Partner with organizational leaders to strengthen financial understanding, accountability and resource planning.
  • Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.
  • Develop and enhance executive-level financial reporting and performance metrics.

Controls, Compliance and Risk

  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure appropriate segregation of duties.
  • Oversee financial and regulatory reporting requirements applicable to the organization.
  • Partner with legal, compliance and operational leadership on risk-management initiatives.
  • Monitor liquidity, financial performance and other key indicators of organizational health.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen processes, improve reporting and reduce financial risk.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Leadership and Organizational Partnership

  • Lead, develop and mentor members of the accounting and finance team.
  • Establish clear priorities, performance expectations and professional-development opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to the CFO, executive leadership and Board.
  • Communicate financial information clearly to both financial and nonfinancial audiences.
  • Build collaborative relationships across departments and functions.
  • Lead process improvements, system enhancements and other initiatives that strengthen the organization’s financial infrastructure.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required.
  • CPA required.
  • Ten or more years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Significant experience leading an accounting, finance or controllership function.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Experience working within a complex, regulated or highly compliance-driven organization preferred.
  • Experience overseeing budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to present financial information to executive leadership, boards or committees.
  • Strong people-leadership skills with a record of developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience improving financial systems, reporting tools and accounting processes.
  • Advanced proficiency with financial systems and Microsoft Excel.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary for this position is up to $170,000, depending on experience, credentials and overall alignment with the role. The organization also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
