Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Accountant to support full-cycle accounting activities, financial reporting, reconciliations, audits, and governmental accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accounting records for District divisions, including Administration, Development, Bridge, Bus, and Ferry operations.
- Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, allocations, cash activity, capital assets, debt service, A/R, and A/P.
- Reconcile general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies involving invoices, purchase orders, encumbrances, and retention.
- Review financial activity across A/P, A/R, payroll, inventory, and capital assets for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and assist with financial statement preparation.
- Participate in internal and external financial, compliance, and performance audits.
- Ensure compliance with GASB standards, GAAP, federal and state regulations, and financial policies.
- Document and maintain accounting procedures and workflows.
- Support grant compliance and governmental reporting requirements.
- Respond to accounting inquiries and communicate financial procedures to staff, auditors, and external agencies.
- Support payroll and other standalone financial systems.
- Manage multiple deadlines independently in a fast-paced environment.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field, or equivalent qualifying experience.
- 4+ years of progressive full-cycle accounting or auditing experience.
- Governmental accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and GASB.
- General ledger and accounting software experience.
- Financial reporting and audit experience.
- Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, A/P, A/R, payroll, and capital assets.
- Grant compliance experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Skills
- Public sector or public transportation agency experience.
- CPA licensure process participation.
- Experience with NTD, FHWA, or State Controller’s Office reporting.
- Experience with government financial policies and procedures.
