Are you an experienced nonprofit accounting leader ready to own the financial operations alongside leadership? A nonprofit organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to take ownership of their accounting function and serve as a key pillar of the finance team. This is a role for a dedicated professional who understands the unique complexities of nonprofit fund accounting, has people management experience, and brings the kind of presence and communication skills that earn trust across an organization. This role is onsite 4 days a week in Encino, CA.


Key Responsibilities

  • Full Close Ownership: Lead all month-end and year-end close activities from start to finish, ensuring every deliverable is accurate, complete, and delivered on time in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Fund Accounting: Oversee and manage the organization's fund accounting processes, ensuring proper tracking, allocation, and reporting across all funds in compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and donor restrictions.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and deliver timely and accurate financial statements and management reports, providing leadership with the clarity and visibility needed to make informed organizational decisions.
  • Balance Sheet Management: Own balance sheet reconciliations across all accounts, maintaining clean and well-supported positions at all times and resolving discrepancies quickly and thoroughly.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Directly manage and mentor accounting staff, setting clear expectations, reviewing work product, and fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Audit & Compliance: Coordinate with external auditors and ensure the organization is audit-ready year-round, maintaining full compliance with GAAP, nonprofit reporting standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Serve as a trusted financial resource across the organization, communicating financial results clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders and adapting your approach to meet the needs of the room.


What We're Looking For

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a minimum of 2+ years managing direct reports.
  • Background: Nonprofit fund accounting experience required, a strong understanding of fund structures, restrictions, and nonprofit-specific reporting is essential.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong command of nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting principles, and financial statement preparation. Proficiency in Excel and nonprofit accounting platforms required.
