Job Summary: About the Role
Hyperdrive is hiring senior Agile Delivery professionals for an upcoming engagement in California. We are looking for people who can walk into a complex, high-visibility program and take real accountability for agile team delivery from day one.
This is not a coordinator role and it is not a pure coaching role. You will own delivery outcomes while also raising the delivery maturity of the teams around you. You will partner with product and engineering leadership, keep multiple workstreams aligned, and give executives a clear and honest picture of where things stand. Essentially this is a Scrum Master/ Project Manager position combined into a Agile Delivery Manager role.
The environment is a large public program with cross-agency stakeholders, formal governance, and a mix of Agile, hybrid, and traditional delivery depending on the workstream. You need to be comfortable operating inside a client's approval structure, not around it.
Responsibilities
- Own delivery for one or more workstreams, from initiation through planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout
- Build confidence in delivery by creating clarity, transparency, and alignment across multiple levels of leadership
- Partner with product and engineering counterparts to keep execution, product outcomes, and technical integrity in balance
- Act as a process accelerator: surface hidden blockers, simplify tangled workflows, keep teams focused on progress
- Coordinate across business areas, technical teams, vendors, and executive stakeholders
Project Management and Controls
- Develop and maintain the core artifacts: project charters, work plans, schedules, status reports, risk and issue logs, meeting materials, and action item trackers
- Monitor scope, schedule, dependencies, risks, issues, and deliverables, and escalate concerns early rather than late
- Track cross-team and cross-functional dependencies and drive them to resolution with named owners
- Lead release readiness activities, coordinating dependencies and confirming quality, security, and operational standards are met before deployment
- Produce executive-level briefings, dashboards, status summaries, and decision-support materials that leaders actually use
- Facilitate meetings, document decisions, and track follow-up actions to closure
- Work within the client's direction, timelines, approval requirements, and deliverable review and acceptance processes
Agile Delivery and Team Enablement
- Facilitate sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and release planning across teams
- Organize and run release planning at scale, coordinating scope and dependencies across multiple teams and product lines
- Coach teams in self-organization, cross-functionality, and continuous improvement
- Own backlog and tooling hygiene so that tickets are properly structured, linked, and reflect accurate status
- Use delivery data to identify improvement opportunities and raise predictability
- Create the conditions for teams to focus and improve, including the trust and safety that make honest retrospectives possible
Coaching, Transformation, and Enablement
- Coach individuals, teams, and leaders through changes in ways of working, addressing resistance points and minimizing disruption
- Identify process gaps and recommend practical improvements to project controls and governance
- Deliver training and workshops on Agile, Scrum, and delivery practices to teams and stakeholders
- Coach leaders and teams on OKRs: writing them so they are actionable and measurable, and connecting them to delivery plans, resource allocation, and execution timelines
- Support onboarding and transition of team members with structured plans that preserve delivery momentum
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - YOU MUST HAVE ALL OF THIS
You must be able to demonstrate all of the following. We will ask for specifics.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. TECHNICAL DEGREE preferred.
- At least 7 years of project management experience for complex technology initiatives
- At least 7 years leading cross-functional project teams and coordinating across business, technical, and vendor stakeholders
- Current PMP, CSM, PSM, or comparable industry-recognized certification
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining project charters, work plans, schedules, status reports, risk and issue logs, meeting materials, and action item trackers
- Demonstrated experience monitoring scope, schedule, dependencies, risks, issues, and deliverables, and escalating in a timely manner
- Experience facilitating technical meetings, documenting decisions, tracking follow-up actions, and communicating status clearly to leadership and stakeholders
- Experience preparing executive-level briefings, dashboards, status summaries, and decision-support materials
- Experience working in health care environments that use structured project management practices and, where applicable, Agile or hybrid delivery methods
- Working knowledge of Agile principles and the ability to coordinate with Scrum Masters, product owners, technical teams, and business stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain quality and timeliness of deliverables
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to produce clear, concise, professional documentation
- Ability to deliver within a client's direction, timelines, approval requirements, and deliverable review processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and drive decisions without direct authority
Preferred Qualifications
- Project management experience supporting California state government or another public-sector entity
- Experience with enterprise applications, digital services, business process improvement, organizational change, procurement support, or vendor coordination
- Experience organizing large-scale or multi-team release planning
- Experience coordinating across executive leadership, program areas, operations, and information technology
- Experience with product management and product operating models, including working alongside product managers and product owners on outcome-driven delivery
- Experience leading or supporting Agile transformations at team, program, or organizational scale
- Experience designing and delivering training or coaching programs on Agile, Scrum, product, or leadership topics
- Experience coaching executives and teams on OKRs and connecting objectives to delivery execution
- Experience identifying process gaps and implementing more effective project controls or governance
- Track record of onboarding quickly into a new environment and becoming effective with minimal ramp-up
- Familiarity with public benefits, consumer-facing service environments, or programs with complex policy, operational, and stakeholder considerations
- Fluency with Jira, Confluence, and cloud-based collaboration tooling
- Financial acumen for estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and tracking value delivered
Skills We Look For:
- Coordinating cross-functional teams toward measurable business outcomes
- Strong facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution
- Servant leadership that builds collaboration without surrendering accountability
- Backlog management, epic structuring, and delivery tracking in Jira or equivalent
- Communicating with equal clarity to a delivery team and to an executive sponsor
- Sound judgment and professionalism in sensitive or high-visibility work
