About The Role: AI Workshop Leader at TUMO Los Angeles will deliver hands-on workshops that introduce teenagers to the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence. Your goal is to guide students aged 12-18 into becoming active AI creators, not passive consumers, helping them understand how to build with these tools while thinking critically about their limitations. In addition to creating with AI, students will explore topics like bias in AI outputs, recognizing AI-generated disinformation, and confronting ethical questions around ownership and training data.
Goal: Deliver AI-focused workshops, evaluate student work, and mentor teens interested in artificial intelligence at the TUMO LA Center for Creative Technologies.
Start Date: October 2026
Compensation: $30-50/hr
Hours/Location: 12-15 hours a week, in person in North Hollywood - working days will include alternating Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and Saturdays. The schedule will have slight and predictable changes each month.

The Role: TUMO Center for Creative Technologies is looking for an AI specialist to join the TUMO LA team and lead AI-focused workshops for teens. At TUMO you will get a chance to inspire teens with your experience and open their eyes to the practical applications of artificial intelligence through hands-on projects, demonstrations, and group workshops, sparking curiosity while building critical thinking.
About TUMO: TUMO is a free, innovative education program for teens ages 12–18, serving approximately 40,000 students each week across 10 countries, with centers in Paris, Berlin, Lisbon, Buenos Aires, Yerevan, Amsterdam, and more. TUMO Los Angeles is the first U.S. location, made possible with support from the State of California and the City of Los Angeles.
TUMO students attend the center after school and on weekends to explore technology and design through self-learning activities, hands-on workshops, and project-based labs. TUMO LA opened in October 2025 and currently serves 600 students per week.
Main Responsibilities:
- Contribute to and lead AI-focused workshops that make complex concepts accessible to teenagers
- Evaluate student work, provide constructive feedback, and archive completed projects
- Conduct demonstrations and activities that spark curiosity and creativity in AI
- Contribute to testing and improving AI learning activities and curriculum
- Keep up with emerging AI tools and techniques, proposing new approaches for student activities
- Guide students through brainstorming and prototyping AI-powered project ideas
- Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications:
- AI enthusiast with real hands-on experience using tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini; comfortable with prompting techniques (chain-of-thought, few-shot, etc.) and a basic understanding of how these models work (LLMs, tokenization, TTS/STT, etc.)
- Comfortable with core programming concepts (variables, conditionals, loops, API calls); able to read, edit, and debug small applications and make API calls to AI models via terminal, API clients, or simple scripts
- Excellent communication skills, including written communication, personal interaction, and public presentation in English
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse age groups, facilitate group work, and adapt curriculum pacing based on student needs
- Good analytical and organizational skills
- Language: English fluency is required
Nice to Have:
- Deeper understanding of AI/ML concepts (tokenization, embeddings, fine-tuning, RAG pipelines, etc.)
- Intermediate or advanced programming skills, ability to build applications from scratch
