Associate Director, Attorney Development

Position Overview

A top-ranked AmLaw firm is seeking an Associate Director, Attorney Development to support and develop its associates. This role spans talent management, staffing, integration, evaluations, and strategic planning. It is based in the firm's New York office and follows a hybrid schedule.

This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the associate experience at a top-tier firm and partner directly with leadership on how legal talent is deployed and grown.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise firm leadership on how associates are developed and assigned, including capacity planning and how work is distributed across teams.
• Draw on data and market comparisons to help associates advance and perform at a high level.
• Work alongside leadership and the people team to shape and roll out new programs and guidelines.
• Manage how associates move through their early practice rotations and how their progress is reviewed.
• Connect regularly with associates to gauge engagement, growth, and their broader experience at the firm.
• Help new arrivals settle into the group and get up to speed.
• Organize gatherings for associates and coordinate group-wide sessions.
• Partner with support functions throughout the firm.
• Apply AI and newer tools to sharpen and speed up how the team works.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and JD required.
• 2+ years practicing law as an Associate, Transactional or M&A experience preferred.
• 5+ years in attorney development, talent management, legal staffing and utilization or practice management.
• Genuine fluency with AI and other newer technologies.
