About the Firm

We are a small, growing employment litigation law firm located in Glendale. Our practice is focused on providing high-quality legal representation while maintaining a strong commitment to client service. We handle matters from initial intake and case evaluation through litigation, trial preparation, and trial.

Because we are a growing firm, attorneys have the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility and develop their litigation skills in a hands-on environment. We believe the best attorneys are those who are continually learning, embrace new technology, take pride in their work, and genuinely care about the clients they serve.

We are looking for an attorney who wants to build a career in employment litigation, not simply move from one job to another.

Position Overview

The Associate Attorney will work closely with the firm's attorneys and clients throughout the litigation process. This position offers significant exposure to all stages of employment litigation, including case intake and evaluation, discovery, law and motion, depositions, trial preparation, and trial.

The ideal candidate is hardworking, computer savvy, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and eager to grow. We provide mentorship, instruction, training, and opportunities for professional development, while also encouraging attorneys to take ownership of their cases and pursue continued self-education.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants to develop strong litigation and trial skills within a supportive, collaborative, and entrepreneurial law firm environment.

Key Responsibilities

Case Intake & Evaluation

  • Assist with pre-litigation client intake and initial case evaluation.
  • Interview and communicate with prospective and existing clients to gather relevant facts and information.
  • Analyze potential employment claims and assist with evaluating case strategy and potential exposure.
  • Gather, organize, and review documents, records, and other evidence.
  • Communicate directly with clients by telephone, email, virtually, and in person.

Litigation

  • Assist with all phases of employment litigation from case inception through trial.
  • Draft pleadings, complaints, answers, motions, oppositions, and other litigation documents.
  • Research and draft law and motion.
  • Propound and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, and other discovery.
  • Assist with discovery strategy and case development.
  • Prepare for and participate in depositions, including taking and defending depositions as appropriate.
  • Assist with witness preparation and development of evidence.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, preparing witnesses, developing trial materials, and other pre-trial matters.
  • Assist with trial and gain hands-on exposure to courtroom practice.
  • Maintain organized case files and effectively manage litigation deadlines.

Client Service & Communication

  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients.
  • Keep clients informed regarding case status, developments, deadlines, and strategy.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, responsiveness, and a genuine commitment to client service.
  • Work collaboratively with attorneys and staff to ensure cases are handled efficiently and effectively.

Technology & Efficiency

Technology is an important part of how we operate. We actively look for ways to use technology to improve efficiency, organization, communication, and the quality of our legal work.

The successful candidate should be comfortable learning new technology and software and should be willing to embrace technology as a tool for becoming a more effective attorney.

Qualifications

Required

  • Active license to practice law in the State of California and in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in Labor & Employment Law.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and client-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the team.
  • Strong work ethic and a desire to continually develop litigation and trial skills.

Preferred

  • Prior experience handling employment litigation matters.
  • Experience drafting pleadings and law and motion.
  • Experience propounding and responding to written discovery.
  • Deposition experience, including taking and/or defending depositions.
  • Prior trial or significant trial-preparation experience.
  • Experience working directly with clients.
  • Strong interest in developing a long-term career in employment litigation.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is smart, driven, curious, and genuinely interested in becoming a better litigator.

You don't need to know everything on day one. What matters is that you are willing to learn, ask questions, take feedback, do the work, and continually improve.

The ideal attorney will:

  • Take initiative and ownership of their work.
  • Be comfortable learning new technology and finding ways to work more efficiently.
  • Have strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Be comfortable communicating directly with clients.
  • Enjoy the intellectual challenge of litigation.
  • Be willing to learn through mentorship, hands-on experience, and independent study.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Work well in a small-team environment.
  • Understand that excellent client service is fundamental to a successful law practice.
  • Be interested in developing both litigation and trial skills over the long term.

Our Culture

  • We take our work seriously, but we don't believe that means the workplace has to be overly formal or rigid.
  • Our office is located in Glendale, and our environment is relaxed, collaborative, and supportive. Yes, you may occasionally find one or two dogs making their way around the office.
  • We enjoy spending time together as a team, including having lunch together each week, and we have a shared appreciation for international soccer.
  • Most importantly, we believe in being productive and effective during working hours rather than measuring commitment simply by the number of hours someone spends at their desk.
  • We want our attorneys to do excellent work, serve our clients well, continue developing professionally, and enjoy the people they work with.

Training, Mentorship & Growth

We believe attorneys become excellent litigators through a combination of hands-on experience, mentorship, instruction, technology, and a commitment to continuous learning.

The successful candidate will receive substantial training and support while being given progressively greater responsibility as their knowledge and skills develop.

This position provides an opportunity to work on real cases, interact directly with clients, develop litigation strategy, participate in depositions and law and motion, and gain valuable trial experience.

For the right attorney, there is significant opportunity for professional growth and increased responsibility as the firm continues to grow.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
  • 100% employer-paid healthcare benefits — no employee contribution required.
  • Additional employee benefits.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
  • Mentorship and hands-on litigation experience.
  • Opportunity to develop significant deposition and trial skills.
  • Supportive and collaborative work environment.
  • Convenient Old Town Pasadena office location.
  • Relaxed and informal office culture.
