Behavioral Health Nurse

Seeking an experienced Pediatric Mental Health Registered Nurse to provide safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care to children and adolescents ages 5–18 experiencing acute mental health crises. The RN will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support stabilization, treatment, and achievement of individualized patient goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, effective, and therapeutic nursing care to pediatric and adolescent patients experiencing acute mental health crises.
- Assess patients' physical, behavioral, and mental health needs and develop individualized nursing care plans.
- Monitor patient conditions, behaviors, responses to treatment, and changes in mental health status.
- Administer medications and monitor patients for therapeutic effects and adverse reactions.
- Support psychopharmacological treatment and communicate patient responses to the healthcare team.
- Participate in therapeutic group activities including Mindfulness, Wellness, Coping Skills, and Activities Therapy.
- Promote a safe, supportive, and structured environment for patients.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide patient and family education related to treatment, coping strategies, and mental health management.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Follow behavioral health, patient safety, infection prevention, and hospital policies.
- Participate in weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage based on unit requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric mental health/psychiatric nursing experience required.
- Active New York State RN License required.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Experience caring for children and adolescents experiencing acute mental health or psychiatric conditions.
- Strong assessment, communication, crisis-management, and therapeutic nursing skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
- CPI Blue Card certification preferred.
- Experience working in a large academic medical center preferred.
- Telemetry experience is a plus.
- Ability to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong commitment to pediatric and adolescent psychiatric care.
Important Details:
- 17-week contract position (extensions available)
- Shift is 12-hour rotating shifts (Days/Eves/nights), 36 and 48 hours/week
- Location is Rochester, NY 14642
- No local candidates accepted within 50 miles from the job location
- Pay Range for Travelers: $2,000 - $2,050 (36 hrs per week)
- Pay Range for Travelers: $2,640 - $2,680 (48 hrs per week)
