2.1 Task 1 - Electrical Engineering And Design
- Provide an experienced Electrical Engineer responsible for supporting ALS-U Cable Plant and related electrical infrastructure scope.
Responsibilities include:
• Support the design and engineering of AC distribution, electrical equipment, cable distribution, cable routing, cable tray/raceway, grounding, and related electrical infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain electrical engineering documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, rack layouts, cable routing plans, equipment layouts, parts lists, bills of materials, specifications, interface documents, and installation work instructions.
• Develop and evaluate cable routing and cable tray/raceway solutions for ALS-U equipment and systems.
• Apply applicable NEC requirements and established LBNL, ALS, and ALS-U engineering practices to electrical distribution, equipment installation, grounding, cabling, and related infrastructure.
• Select and evaluate electrical components and equipment based on technical requirements, reliability, maintainability, safety, and applicable codes and standards.
• Use applicable CAD, 3D CAD, BIM, and electrical engineering tools to develop, evaluate, and maintain engineering designs.
• Participate in electrical design reviews and multidisciplinary technical reviews.
• Develop practical engineering solutions to design, installation, and interface issues.
• Coordinate electrical and cabling interfaces with subsystem leads and other engineering disciplines.
2.2 Task 2 – Installation, Integration, and Field Support
Perform electrical engineering support associated with installation, integration, testing, and commissioning activities, including:
• Support electrical and cable plant installation planning.
• Evaluate field conditions affecting electrical design and installation.
• Review cable routing, cable tray/raceway, equipment installation, and electrical infrastructure against applicable designs and requirements.
• Support contractor and subcontractor electrical design and installation activities by reviewing technical documentation, responding to field questions, monitoring work, and supporting verification of compliance with approved designs.
• Participate in field, installation, design, and technical reviews as required.
• Support installation readiness, inspections, material requirements, procurement, and kitting activities, as applicable.
• Resolve electrical design, installation, and technical interface issues encountered during execution.
• Support electrical system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Coordinate with engineers, technical staff, contractors and subcontractors, operations personnel, and other project stakeholders.
The work includes field activity at LBNL and may require access to ALS accelerator areas.
2.3 Task 3 – Engineering Documentation and Technical Coordination
Prepare, review, and maintain engineering and project documentation, as applicable, including:
• Electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Cable routing plans and cable tray/raceway layouts.
• Equipment and rack layouts.
• Parts lists and bills of materials.
• Engineering specifications.
• Statements of work and technical procurement documentation.
• Interface documents.
• Installation work instructions.
• Engineering calculations and technical evaluations, as applicable.
• Design-review documentation.
• Field markups and as-built documentation.
• Testing and commissioning documentation.
• Configuration-controlled engineering records.
Coordinate with subsystem leads, engineers, designers, technicians, contractors and subcontractors, operations personnel, and other technical stakeholders to maintain accurate technical interfaces and resolve issues affecting electrical design, installation, integration, and commissioning.
2.4 Task 4 – Safety and Engineering Compliance
- Perform assigned activities in accordance with applicable Berkeley Lab Environment, Health & Safety requirements and applicable electrical engineering and safety requirements.
Responsibilities include:
• Apply applicable NEC requirements and LBNL, ALS, and ALS-U engineering practices to electrical distribution, equipment installation, grounding, cabling, and related infrastructure.
• Consider reliability, maintainability, safety, and applicable codes and standards in the selection and evaluation of electrical components and equipment.
• Support safe execution of electrical design, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Maintain required Berkeley Lab safety and technical training.
• Maintain engineering documentation, drawings, calculations, software, and records in accordance with applicable laboratory configuration-control requirements.
4.5.1 Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field and a minimum of two years of related engineering experience; or Master’s degree and a minimum of one year of related experience; or equivalent education and experience.
• Experience with electrical, electronics, and facility system design and implementation.
• Experience developing and interpreting electrical engineering drawings and documentation, including schematics, layouts, wiring diagrams, cable routing plans, and bills of materials.
• Working knowledge of NEC requirements applicable to AC distribution and electrical equipment installation.
• Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD.
• Experience with 3D CAD software such as Revit or comparable tools.
• Experience with E-CAD tools for schematic capture, electrical layout, simulation, and design-for-manufacture.
• Ability to work on projects of diverse scope and develop practical solutions to engineering problems with appropriate direction.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
• Ability to coordinate and interact effectively with multiple engineering and technical disciplines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to perform required field activities associated with the assignment.
• Demonstrated commitment to safe work execution.
4.5.2 Preferred Qualifications
- Due to the specialized nature of the assignment and the ALS-U Project execution schedule, personnel with substantial experience in complex electrical systems, cable plant infrastructure, research facilities, or comparable technical environments are preferred.
Preferred Qualifications Include:
• Five or more years of related electrical engineering experience, or equivalent experience consistent with the senior Electrical Engineer level.
• Demonstrated experience independently leading electrical engineering design and implementation for complex systems.
• Significant experience with electrical distribution, equipment installation, cabling, cable routing, cable tray/raceway systems, grounding, and/or experimental electrical systems.
• Advanced knowledge of NEC requirements and applicable electrical safety requirements, including NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.
• Experience with Revit, BIM, or multidisciplinary 3D design coordination.
• Experience with SKM and/or ETAP for applicable electrical analysis and design activities.
• Experience leading or overseeing contractor/subcontractor electrical design and installation activities.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities and resolving complex technical interfaces.
• Experience developing engineering standards, procedures, and installation methodologies.
• Experience supporting electrical system integration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Experience managing or supporting project cost, schedule, procurement, and installation execution.
• Experience in a research laboratory, national laboratory, particle accelerator, industrial facility, or comparably complex technical environment.
• Experience with electrical equipment and systems used in particle accelerators.
• Experience working in a DOE environment or on DOE O 413.3B scientific projects.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, particularly with experience in power electronics or power supplies.
• Experience with Creo Parametric.
• EIT certification.
• Professional Engineer license.
