Job Title: Director of Construction – Temporary Structures & Event Infrastructure
MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Candidate must hold or have previously served as a CSLB Class B qualifying individual (RME/RMO) and be eligible to serve as the Responsible Managing Employee (RME) for GL events USA.
Position Overview
GL events USA is seeking an experienced Director of Construction to lead licensed construction operations, temporary structures and event infrastructure projects across North America. The successful candidate will serve as the Responsible Managing Employee (RME) for the company and provide leadership in contractor licensing, permitting, compliance, construction operations and subcontractor management. This role supports major projects including Formula 1, Olympic Games and large-scale hospitality installations.
This position will be a key contributor in the U.S. market, supporting major international events and interfacing with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
- Lead and coordinate end-to-end project delivery for event infrastructure and logistics.
- Develop project timelines, scopes of work, and client-facing deliverables.
- Manage communications across all project stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and partners.
- Maintain control over project cost, quality, and scheduling benchmarks.
Onsite Event Operations
- Supervise field operations, including installation, live event support, and teardown of temporary infrastructure.
- Oversee on-site crew performance and enforce compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot in real-time and coordinate the resolution of logistical or operational issues.
Procurement & Logistics
- Sourced and managed supplier relationships to meet project timelines and cost targets.
- Coordinate freight, transport, customs, and warehousing needs for domestic and international events.
- Support forecasting and inventory tracking for equipment and materials.
Client Services & Communication
- Act as a day-to-day client liaison, ensuring clarity in deliverables, expectations, and execution.
- Provide consistent reporting on project progress, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure post-project client satisfaction and support ongoing relationship development.
Operational Support & Strategy
- Support bid submissions and proposal development with accurate pricing, timelines, and operational planning.
- Assist in building operational procedures and internal documentation as GL events expands in North America.
- Contribute to cross-departmental efforts, including staffing, vendor evaluation, and project feasibility studies.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of construction management experience.
- Previous experience as RME, RMO, Qualifying Individual, Construction Executive or Construction Director.
- Experience with temporary structures, grandstands, scaffolding, overlay, power, hospitality and event infrastructure.
- Background in sports venues, live events, overlay, modular construction or related industries.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders and workstreams.
- Experience coordinating site operations, vendors, and on-the-ground staff.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities under tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally (30–50% travel).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Licensing & Regulatory Requirements
- Serve as the Responsible Managing Employee (RME) for GL events USA.
- Maintain California contractor licensing compliance and support future licensing efforts in Nevada and other states.
- Lead permitting, inspections, authority coordination and regulatory compliance.
- Verify subcontractor licensing, insurance and compliance requirements.
