Job opening
Director of Financial Reporting
Full job description
We are partnering with a private equity-backed, multi-entity manufacturing and distribution company on a newly created Director of Financial Reporting opportunity. This is a highly visible role reporting directly to the VP of Controller and serving as a key bridge between Accounting, FP&A, Operations, and executive leadership.
This is not a pure financial reporting/consolidations role. The ideal candidate is someone who understands the business behind the numbers, can challenge results and assumptions, and knows how to turn financial data into meaningful insights for senior leadership.
What You'll Do
- Own consolidated financial reporting across a complex U.S. organization
- Partner closely with Accounting and FP&A on forecasting, budgeting, reconciliations, and performance reporting
- Develop and enhance KPIs around revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, profitability, and working capital
- Analyze financial trends and variances, identify key drivers, and communicate the story behind the numbers
- Prepare executive and board-level reporting packages and presentations
- Build scalable dashboards, reporting tools, and analytical models using Excel and BI technologies
- Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes and improve system utilization
- Partner with Sales, Operations, IT, and branch leadership to improve access to actionable financial information
- Support consolidated balance sheet reconciliations, audit requirements, and U.S./Canada transfer pricing
- Establish stronger reporting processes, documentation, and controls as the organization continues to modernize
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to executive leadership and the private equity sponsor
What We're Looking For
- CPA required
- 8+ years of combined corporate accounting/reporting and public accounting/audit experience
- Experience owning or significantly supporting consolidated financial reporting
- Experience in a private equity-backed, leveraged, or lender-reporting environment
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Experience developing dashboards, KPIs, and executive/board reporting
- Proven ability to implement new processes, improve reporting infrastructure, and reduce manual work
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with BI/reporting tools
- Strong understanding of the relationship between the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and operational performance
- Big 4 experience is strongly preferred
The Ideal Profile
We're looking for more than a technical reporting expert. You should be:
- Business curious — interested in understanding why the numbers move
- Analytically rigorous — able to identify trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities
- Commercially minded — able to connect financial results to business decisions
- Enterprise-oriented — comfortable working across Accounting, FP&A, Sales, Operations, and IT
- A confident communicator — able to clearly present financial results to executives and senior stakeholders
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is a high-visibility Director-level opportunity with significant influence across the organization. You'll have the opportunity to modernize reporting infrastructure, improve visibility into branch and enterprise performance, and work directly with senior leadership and a private equity sponsor.
The company is transitioning from a legacy environment toward modern systems, processes, and reporting, creating an opportunity for someone who wants to make a tangible impact rather than simply maintain the status quo.
The role also offers an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong accounting/reporting foundation who wants to move further into FP&A, business partnership, and strategic analysis.
