A well-established and growing specialty insurance organization is seeking an experienced accounting leader to oversee financial reporting, analysis, and operational accounting activities for a key business segment. This highly visible role partners closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, providing financial insights that support strategic decision-making while ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
This position offers the opportunity to work across underwriting, actuarial, claims, reinsurance, legal, and technology functions in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of management and financial reporting for a designated insurance business unit.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external counterparties to ensure accurate and timely reporting deliverables.
- Prepare and analyze financial results, including underwriting performance, balance sheet accounts, and key operating metrics.
- Provide meaningful financial reporting, analysis, and business insights to senior leadership and operational teams.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, including GAAP and Statutory Accounting principles.
- Oversee accounting activities related to premiums, claims, commissions, reserves, reinsurance transactions, and cash applications.
- Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement variance analyses, identifying trends, risks, and areas requiring further investigation.
- Develop clear and concise commentary supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results.
- Partner with underwriting, actuarial, claims, legal, reinsurance, and technology teams to support business initiatives and operational effectiveness.
- Coordinate audit requests and support internal controls, risk management, and SOX compliance activities.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- 7+ years of accounting or finance experience within the insurance or reinsurance industry, including leadership responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of insurance accounting, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Experience managing financial reporting processes and working with both GAAP and Statutory Accounting principles.
- Proven ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate findings to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems; Workday and Power BI experience are a plus.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
