Harvey Nash USA has been engaged to find an experienced Export & Sanctions Compliance Specialist to support export compliance, sanctions screening, investigations, and regulatory compliance activities. This role is ideal for professionals with hands-on experience in export compliance, sanctions screening, regulatory research, and investigation of individuals, companies, vendors, suppliers, and transactions.


The successful candidate will be highly detail-oriented, analytical, organized, and comfortable working in a compliance-focused environment with aggressive timelines. The individual should demonstrate sound ethical judgment, strong research capabilities, and the ability to independently investigate and document potential compliance risks.


Role Summary

The team is responsible for supporting export and sanctions compliance activities across various business programs and operations. The Export & Sanctions Compliance Specialist will conduct screening and investigations, evaluate potential sanctions and export-control risks, perform due diligence, document findings, and escalate unusual or high-risk activity as appropriate.

This role will work closely with internal stakeholders and compliance teams to ensure investigations and screening activities are completed accurately, consistently, and within established service-level expectations.


Description

The Export & Sanctions Compliance Specialist will be responsible for conducting denied-party screenings, export compliance reviews, sanctions investigations, and due diligence activities involving customers, business partners, vendors, suppliers, and transactions.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of export-control and sanctions regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions regulations. The individual should be comfortable conducting independent research using internal systems, commercial databases, third-party tools, and publicly available information to evaluate and disposition screening alerts.

Strong documentation, communication, organization, and investigative skills are essential for success in this role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform denied-party screenings for various programs within the organization.
  • Assist with export and sanctions compliance reviews of applications and business activities.
  • Conduct export compliance due diligence reviews of vendors and suppliers to identify potential risks.
  • Review and investigate potential matches generated by sanctions screening systems and appropriately disposition alerts.
  • Conduct investigations of customers, business partners, and transactions in accordance with established policies, procedures, tools, and service-level agreements.
  • Research and evaluate potential sanctions, export-control, and compliance risks associated with screened parties and transactions.
  • Escalate unusual findings that may relate to sanctioned individuals, terrorist financing, law enforcement matters, or other potentially criminal activities.
  • Conduct independent research using the internet, third-party tools, commercial databases, and internal databases to evaluate and resolve screening alerts.
  • Analyze information obtained through investigations and determine appropriate compliance-related next steps.
  • Accurately accumulate, organize, and document relevant findings regarding transactions and screened parties.
  • Maintain detailed investigation records and supporting documentation.
  • Partner with internal compliance stakeholders to communicate findings, questions, and potential risks.
  • Meet established SLAs and aggressive timelines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality.
  • Assist with additional export and sanctions compliance-related tasks and projects as needed.
  • Adapt to new compliance processes, systems, tools, and regulatory requirements as business needs evolve.


Must-Have Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years of experience in export compliance, sanctions compliance, trade compliance, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, International Relations, International Trade, Law, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Hands-on experience investigating and researching companies and individuals for sanctions and export-control risks.
  • Experience conducting sanctions and denied-party screening activities.
  • Working knowledge of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Working knowledge of OFAC sanctions regulations.
  • Experience using SAP GTS or an equivalent trade/export compliance screening system.
  • Experience researching and dispositioning potential sanctions screening matches.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization, documentation, project management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple investigations and priorities while meeting aggressive timelines.
  • Ability to exercise sound ethical judgment when evaluating compliance risks.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned investigations.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, systems, tools, and processes.
  • Proficiency with Mac, macOS, and iOS environments.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting export-control and sanctions compliance programs within a large or global organization.
  • Experience working with sanctions screening, denied-party screening, or trade compliance systems.
  • Experience conducting enhanced due diligence or investigative research.
  • Familiarity with commercial compliance databases and third-party research tools.
  • Experience handling complex or ambiguous screening alerts.
  • Strong understanding of compliance documentation and audit requirements.
  • Ability to identify patterns, inconsistencies, and potential risk indicators during investigations.
  • Experience working in a high-volume, SLA-driven compliance environment.
  • Strong ability to prioritize competing investigations while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement feedback and continuously improve investigation and documentation practices.


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, International Relations, International Trade, Law, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered.


Top Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have 2–3+ years of hands-on export compliance and sanctions experience, with a strong background in denied-party screening, sanctions investigations, export-control research, and compliance due diligence. A strong candidate will understand EAR and OFAC regulations, have experience using SAP GTS or a comparable screening system, and be comfortable independently researching individuals, companies, vendors, suppliers, and transactions to investigate potential compliance risks.


The candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, compliance-focused environment with aggressive SLAs. Strong written communication, documentation, ethical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to work independently are critical.

Compensation


A reasonable, good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum hourly wage for this position is $40-45/hr on W2.
