Full job description

A large family office with a Real Estate component is seeking a Controller to join their organization. They are seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization. The Controller will play a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the Company, overseeing accounting operations across multiple entities and locations, and providing accurate and timely financial information to executive leadership.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, internal controls, and multi-entity environments. Experience with real estate, property management, automotive, or other asset-intensive businesses is highly preferred.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the Company's accounting and financial reporting functions across multiple entities and locations.
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, cash management, and other accounting functions.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and related management reports.
  • Ensure financial reporting complies with GAAP, Company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in coordination with the CFO/COO and operational leadership.
  • Provide detailed financial analysis, variance reporting, and actionable insights to executive leadership.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital expenditures, and other key financial metrics.
  • Partner with operational leaders to identify opportunities to improve profitability, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.
  • Oversee accounting for multiple entities, intercompany transactions, consolidations, and related-party activity.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, insurance providers, and other external financial partners.
  • Support the CFO/COO with tax planning, financial strategy, capital planning, and other corporate financial initiatives.
  • Assist with mergers, acquisitions, new site development, and expansion initiatives, including financial due diligence and integration.
  • Develop and monitor financial KPIs and reporting tools to improve visibility into Company performance.
  • Evaluate and implement improvements to accounting systems, technology, reporting processes, and internal controls.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting personnel while establishing a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership and financial support for real estate and property-related activities, including capital expenditures, property-level financial reporting, and project analysis.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate controls and strategies to protect Company assets.
  • Serve as a key financial partner to the CFO/COO and executive leadership team on strategic and operational decisions.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by executive leadership.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including significant Controller or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Proven experience managing accounting functions in a multi-entity and multi-site organization.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
  • Experience managing and improving month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insights.
  • Experience with accounting systems, financial reporting platforms, and advanced Excel skills.
  • Real estate, property management, automotive, manufacturing, or other asset-intensive industry experience preferred.
