Are you an accountant who enjoys digging into the details, solving discrepancies, and making sure everything ties out?

Our client, a growing financial services firm, is looking for a Statutory Accountant to join its Finance and Regulatory team. This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to expand beyond traditional GL accounting and develop valuable expertise in insurance accounting, statutory reporting, premium tax, multi-state compliance, and regulatory finance.

You'll have ownership of key accounting and regulatory responsibilities while working closely with Finance, Regulatory, Investment, tax, and audit partners.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare premium tax filings and payments across multiple states.
  • Manage quarterly and annual municipal and state tax filings.
  • Prepare statutory and regulatory filings for state insurance departments and other regulatory organizations.
  • Maintain tax and regulatory filing calendars and keep deadlines on track.
  • Research changing state requirements and maintain accurate filing procedures.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and month-end close support.
  • Reconcile premium taxes, fees, assessments, guarantee funds, and other assigned GL accounts.
  • Review premium, surcharge, fee, and tax reports and investigate discrepancies.
  • Support quarterly reserve processes, including earned premium, reinsurance, claims, and reserve reporting.
  • Maintain custodian bank statements, pledged security schedules, and investment-related reporting.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors, investment accounting providers, custodian banks, and auditors.
  • Prepare and distribute quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Support internal and external audits and respond to documentation requests.
  • Review corporate credit card activity and GL coding through Concur.
  • Assist with special projects, reporting, and financial analysis as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of accounting, financial analysis, or related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related quantitative field preferred
  • Strong general ledger, reconciliation, and journal-entry experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet firm regulatory deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
  • Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP; macros are a plus

Even Better If You Have Experience With

  • Property & Casualty insurance
  • Statutory accounting / NAIC reporting
  • Insurance premium tax
  • Multi-state tax compliance
  • State insurance department filings
  • Insurance regulatory reporting
  • Guarantee fund accounting and assessments
  • Investment or custodian bank reporting
  • Month-end and quarter-end close
  • Insurance accounting or regulatory reporting systems

Why Join?

This isn't just another month-end accounting position.

You'll get exposure to the intersection of accounting, insurance, tax, investments, and regulatory compliance while developing a specialized skill set that can open doors throughout the insurance and financial services industry.

If you're a strong accountant who enjoys researching, reconciling, problem-solving, and taking ownership of deadlines, this could be an excellent next step in your career.
